Question 1st July - HELP US PLEASE!!!

HELP - do we need to go out to Australia before the 1st July to vaidate our visa to qualify for the 2 yrs citizenship rule?? We were granted our 136 Skilled Working Visa in April and know we have until April 2008 to go out to Oz. We are planning to move for good by the end of the year but are worried if we arent in Oz over the 1st July that our visa's wouldnt have been validated and that we would come under the new rule and have to then wait 4yrs to qualify for citizenship?

Come on there must be others of you out there in the same situation as us?

Bruce and Sheila

Yep Bruse & Sheila, thats about the size of it!

We're off on Sat for 3 weeks, just to be there on commencement day.

Once in Australia on the commencment date...?

Thanks Sam & Alex

Do you know (or anyone else) is it a simple case of just getting our passport stamped at the airport then leaving say the 2nd July or do we have to take any paperwork or is there another procedure we need to do once in Oz over the commencement date?

Guess we better start looking into flights etc now... oh panic, panic.....

Hi Bruce & Sheila

We are in the same boat - moving out in August but don't want to miss the 2 year rule by such a close margin. So we planned for me and OH to go out at the end of the month to validate. This weekend just realized that our 14 year old daughter would have to go too as in two years time she will be 16 and have to apply for citizenship in her own right.

Now trying to way up the disadvantages of just lumping the fact that we we need to wait four years for citizenship and what it would actually mean to us.

Good luck with your fights - let me know if you find any good deals!

best wishes
Debs
