I got an email through today from Australia House about getting my Medical done.
They advised me to have the XRay & Medical Exam at 2 different hospitals in London..
London going to be a bit of a problem for me, as i work full time at the moment and it's likely to take a whole day to get done. - I don't have any leave left for a day off work. :frown:
However they said i could have it done at one of the Doctors on the Panel Doctor List, but it could cause a delay to the Application..
Has anyone had problems with going to a local Panel Doctor instead of the ones recomended?
I just don't know what to do? Go to the one in London, or go to my Local NHS which is on the Panel list, and possibly incur a delay?!
Please help

Hi
As far as i aware you can go wherever you want as long as the dr is on the panel list provided...
Where we live we had a choice of at least 4 drs nearby we could have gone to... Shrewsbury, Handsworth, East Mids or even Manchester... but we could have gone further afield....basically we chose the one nearest and that could accomodate us the quickest. However, we had to get the xrays done on a different day as the medical centre did not have the facilites to do that. This was not a problem to us as it meant we could go on a seperate day without the boys being there causing mayhem...!!!! i was also able to look at my xray at home in peace knowing the result before we went for the meds!!!.... hence my post the other day about my rolls of fat clearly visible on the film!!!
I can't see why they told you that.... you can go where and when you want... as long as the drs are on the list and it shouldn't cause a problem...
I dont know where you are but we had our meds done at Handsworth Wood in Birmingham on a Saturday. Meds and Xrays done at the same place and no-one had to have any time off work or school (kids not impressed tho!!).
We had our meds done at the panel docs and our xrays at the hospital near to him, xrays in morn, and meds in afternoon...We had no problem whatsoever and our CO never asked for them..We did frontload them so they must have got there ok :)
If I were you, I would price this up VERY carefully.
I have a private GP in London. He is in Sloane Stret and he doesn't do any NHS work at all. However, when my IUD needed changing, he insisted that he and I both went to the Lister Hospital for the purpose. According ti him, the Lister is more sterile than his surgry etc etc. Load of nonsense. How can you sterilise a carpet? He had two nurses in attendance throughout and the whole job took about 40 minutes because they gave me a cuppa halfway through procedure.
However, it cost an arm and a leg! The Lister charged the doctor for the use of their facilities, and he passed the whole of that cost, as well as his own fee, straight on to me. The next time it needed doing, I went to my local NHS GP! No frils but no bills either!
At least one of the Panel Doctor groups in London (Not the same group as the ones I sometimes use) also do no NHS work and they do the meds at the Cromwell Hozzy, which also does visa x-rays. The price to the applicant can be double that of the cost of getting the x-rays done at a local BUPA hozzy like the one in Southampton. I don't think there are any GPs round here who aren't NHS GPs first and foremost and who just do Panel Doctoring as a sideline. They tend not to have many private patients apart from visa-applicants, plus they don't need to charge you for the use of their own surgeries for the meds.
I would ring round and get prices before you decide where to get your meds done, lassie.
Thank you for your advice, and it does seem like alot of these Docs are making a mint out of us who are after a visa....
Unfortunatly or Fotunatly I booked my appointments yesterday and decided to go to one of the OnLine Panel Docs in London as they said it might be "quicker".
The XRay at an NHS Hospital is £128! and then the Medical is another £110.
I was really supprised at how much the XRay was, i thought it would be nearer the £80 price mark.
Well fingers crossed it all goes well...
