It's considered good practice to bring your own esky full of whatever you care to drink, drink from it all day/evening, and then take any remainder home with you.
It is not etiquette however, to bring a cleanskin, then drink all your host's posh wine!
I don't know why my mind immediately turns to drink, I'm sure there are much more important ones! NOT!
No I didn't do that - but someone had warned me - In the UK if you throw a barbie the host ends up providing everything - here you take what you want to eat and cook it yourself! I did buy some nice new crockery just in case though lol

I do know that it is considered bad form to turn up to a funeral in your Ute, no matter how sure you are that the deceased has left all their personal possessions to you....

Hic!
G'day
When I went to the UK, I was always amazed, shocked, disgusted, whatever when I used to turn up for dinner parties and naturally being an Aussie I'd taken along some some top quality plonk and the host would look at with delight, say thanks and lock it in his cupboard while serving me some 1 pound per bottle Tesco's vino.
