For the TRA, anyone that can sign certify a passport in the UK is able to certify your doc's.

I used a Police Officer and also a Nurse.

is this true - then its so much more easy than i thought and wont cost me a penny extra. got our priest, family friends who are teachers, doctors, customs officers, police etc - woo hoo thank you

Hi franny, a suggestion for your OH's reference from his boss is to offer to write it for him, and then you can put everything required on it, saving his boss all the time and effort, and save you having to pester him to change things if they are wrong or isnt detailed enough.
Then all he has to do is read it and sign it if he agrees with what has been written.
