Maternity Leave

Hi

Can someone please tell me how much maternity leave you get in Oz?

We are hoping to start a family within the next couple of years and I was thinking are we best to start in England and then move to the UK when the baby is a couple of years old or does it not make any difference. Which is best financially wise?

Thanks

Debbie & Chris

Hi, unfortunately paid maternity leave is pretty much non existent in Australia. You will get 12 months unpaid, where your job will be kept open for you. They guys can have a short amount of paternity leave too (unpaid).

You get Paid to have a baby

Hi Debbie,
The goverment Pays you $4000.00 to have a Baby in Oz from July this year it will be going up to. $5000.00. Plus your children will be Australians so they will get dual citizenship which is alot easier then having to wait 4yrs to apply to become Australian citizenship. Its something to think about. I wished I had my little one in Oz my two children were born in Australia . I am having to apply for my little one to live in oz now.
Regards
Paula

This is a bit scary was planning on saving the kids until getting there - but being without any income from me for that time could make that very financially wobbly!!

Maternity Pay

The Goverment Pay everyone in Australia the $5000 fee its to encourage you to build the population up. If you work for a large company that have Maternity leave they still get that also on top of the goverment grant of $5000 and if you have twins you get $10,000. Your right ******* it is a personal choice.
