Hiya - Bike license

Hi,

Dont know much about bike licenses but what I do know is that when u transfer ur British Lisence you only get a "c" class license back which means it is just for a car. Its not the same as a UK one where u can drive a small cc bike, you have to take additional lessons and a test for a bike. Hope that helps xxxxxxxxxxxx

Thanks peeps for all the info re new drivers licences for my son. l think thats a brill thing that newly qualified drivers only get a provisional restricted licence for 3 years. Wish they'd do that over here (mind you l wish they'd adopt loads of things the aussies do over here

In Victoria there is now rre-test for your bike license, you simply change it with your driving license and there's theory test either.

If you have any form of HGV license though you do have to sit theory and hazard tests as well as doing practical driving tests. There are 5 classes of HGV out there and a class 1 here will allow you to go straight for the top class license in Victoria at least.

Been doing homework on this one cos Michael needs to drive for a living (we think!) and had responses along the above lines from various companies that do the testing.

Just remember that when you are here driving in Oz that on public holidays and for a couple of days before and after Double demerits apply.
Does that mean double penalties/fines if you get caught speeding or something?

Yes for speeding and seat belt offences (i.e. not wearing one).

Regarding earlier post on motorbike licences - the UK one is fully transferable (same as the car) and having commuted on one for the last year I'd recommend it. My travel time into Sydney CBD has more than halved (now 30 minutes) as I can legally use the transit and bus lanes to sail past the lines of traffic on the harbour bridge and around the city.

Hiya its the same in queensland with your bike licence as a car one ,just a quick photo and straight swap ,beware though theres loads of bad drivers, bikes are the fastest way of transport but not always the safest with the muppet drivers over here.
