Washing machines are currently unlimited use ,,within reason but you are advised to buy a low water usage one ,if you do you get a rebate for a % of the price paid, hope this helps

Hi, they have been no restrictions placed on showers & washing machines in privates homes so its just the normal... they are trying to restrict to 175trs aday approx per household... i think if you was in restriction 5 then if you go over you get charged more

You will be suprised once you get here, how quickly you become aware of how much water you waste day to day.
Although there are no restrictions on washing machines, dishwashers etc, 4 months in, I never run the dishwasher or washing machine unless its full and both of the showers have buckets in them to catch the water that would just run down the plug. Drive down most streets in Aus in the morning and you will see people emptying there buckets of shower water on their gardens.........................
.................At least I hope its shower water

just an addition to this question. Is it right that oz washing machines only wash in cold water (not just cold fill like some over here) and that the washing powders are suited to that? just wonderin as l have a reasonably new washing machine that l was gonna bring over.

I don't think so. Saying that my sister bought a cold wash machine but changed over to a 'warm' wash one as she didn't think it cleaned the clothes, especially the whites, as well as a normal machine. There are liquids/powders specifically for cold wash machines

Not at all. You get top loaders here which I have used and uses cold and hot feed. Also Front Loaders are being pushed big style and attract a government rebateas they use less water. We bought LG washing machine here just like one we had in UK.

Washing powder clearly states which machine type.

While we're on the subject of washing powder, does anyone know if unperfumed powder is available in Oz. At the moment I buy Co-Op or Asdas bog standard, cheapo stuff because it doesn't affect my kids sensitive skin. We will be in Melbourne, all being well.
Cheers. Jo.
