Dogs in rental.

Hi, we'd be probably renting for the 1st 6 months or so and plan to bring one dog with us. Does anyone know or been involved with anywhere where rentals and dogs go together?

The dog is a short haired variety, unlike the wife, who I'll make sure cleans her mess up after herself.

tinbasher is on a distinguished road
Hi there

We had real problems finding a rental because we had the dog with us. In the end we had to buy something a lot quicker than what we wanted too. All the ozzies kept telling us to lie as that is what most of them do, but we thought it would just be our luck for the owner to live nearby. We did see houses that allowed dogs but they were dirty and expensive. However don't let this put you off I know plenty of English people over here who have found rentals that allow dogs. We just happened to be looking around January and it was the busiest time of the year, apparently. If you know an area you are keen on you could always ask the real estate agents to start looking for you, which is what I wish we had done. Don't let this put you off bringing your dog with you though as it was one of the best things we did.

dogs and rentals

Hi ya

We also had real trouble finding a rental that would allow an inside dog. We have rented 3 different houses and it took us ages to find each one. There are a lot that would allow dogs but they had to be kept outside. My dog is a rottie/bullmastiff cross so is big and that put owners off, although my dog is not in the least bit destructive. We ended up looking for private rentals, which means direct with the owner cause we found that some agents have a blanket 'no dogs' policy. Unfortunately a few bad owners have spoilt it for others. We also got references off each of them when we left which made it a bit easier when we started looking again. Most Aussies have dogs but they don't have the same 'soft spot' for their pets as British people do and most of our aussie friends think we're crazy to allow the dog in our house.....but he's our big boy. If you can get some kind of reference from someone stating that your dog isn't destructive and isn't likely to dig up the garden, that might help. We got our rental properties that allowed dogs from the local news paper. You can pay a pet bond in some states, this is an extra payment to get the place flea bombed when you leave. Also some estate agents say no pets but when you ask them to ask the owners they often will consider pets so it is worth asking. I own a property on perth that i rent out and I allow pets cause i know how hard it is to find somewhere. Our dog was in Quarantine for 4 weeks so it gave us a bit of time to shop around, but it took that long to find somewhere. Good Luck.
