I know I'm jumping the gun here but we like to be prepared for everything. How does it go? Failing to prepare is preparing to fail!! or something like that anyway.
What I want to know is whats the process for enrolling the ankle biters into school? Is it just a case of turning up at school and enquiring? Does it vary from state to state? I probably should be directing this to The Jonezys as we are hoping to head Mornington way. Is it wise to contact the nearest school to where we end up or do we need to be more selective? Its all so confusing cos we will obviously be renting for the first few months but I want to avoid having to change schools again once we buy somewhere, if at all possible. So much to think about. Hope someone can steer us in the right direction. Like I said, just mulling things over at the moment but any advice would be appreciated. Its all going into our big red folder .......
cheers, Tracey x

Happy to stear you in the right direction peeps......but at the end of the day its all down to personal choice.
We have a lovely big modern , new junior school right on our doorstep.
BUT..........and I may get lots of abuse for this, its where all the UK expats send their kids. 5 mins up the road is a lovely old fashion Ausie country school and thats where I chose for Charlie boy. He loves it and I am very pleased with my choice. Its also on the doorstep of where our house is being built, so I wont have to move him again.
If you want more info, pm me.
Lesley
Thanks for that. Just been looking at a few websites of schools in Mornington. Hayleigh is not impressed with some of the uniforms on offer. Its good that Gabz is okay with the back slide. How old is Charlie?

this has puzzled me a bit as well Tracey and we're nowhere near having to worry about it but .... my thought is we won't want to put our 2 into school somewhere once there (hopefully) and renting if we will be moving once buying and having to change schools. to be honest i think depending on the time of year i'd prefer to keep them off school until settled for a while like cal did - ie move out oct/nov time and start new school year at the end of jan but don't know what would happen at any other time of year.

My Mood:
Hiya we kept Zak off school for a couple of month till we had secured a rental in an area we wanted to be ,i just walked into the local school who were excellent and introduced me to the headmaster straight away ,he gave me a tour of the school and classrooms my boy would be in and sent me away with some forms to fill in and return ,as it was November it was their idea to keep him home till January new term ,,hope this helps

Is the system primary or first then middle does anyone know? Lesley, the little country school sounds like what we would want. Is it very big? Our local school that the children go to is just round the corner and takes them from 4 - 11 and only has 120 children so going to a huge school would be a real culture shock. What times are they at school? Could you pm the name of the school aswell Lesley - Thanks! You're so helpful to all us Mornington wannabees.
xx

Thanks for all the replies. We would have liked to do as Cal did with Zak and have Hayleigh start at her new school in time for the new school year in Jan but we can't see us being ready to leave UK before the end of the year. As it is, we're planning on having 3 weeks or so when we first get out there as a sort of holiday/getting sorted time so hopefully we can find a rental in the place where we would like to eventually buy. It iis a tough one and I think we are just going to have be open minded about it all. Its one to keep thinking about as the move gets nearer. Hayleigh's not worried about it (at the moment anyway) so I won't!!
