England is hell. 9 million more immigrants expected to arrive on these shores over next 20 years. Road charging is around the corner. petrol 95p a litre and they are on about charging per mile using sat nav. Council tax is double australia. Gas and elec has gone up 80% over last 3 years. Schools are doing poorly due to influx of immigrants dragging down standards. Interest rates rising and variable is at 7.25% now. Catching up with the oz rate. Water rates around 360 here. Pensions have been hit hard and major news at moment. 5 billion has been wiped out of pension funds by gordon browns 20% tax in late 1990's. People retiring now are getting nearly 50% reduction in annual pension to what they would of got before the tax came into effect. House prices are more than double most of australias and first time buyers can not get on the ladder. The influx of immigrants is part of problem creating shortage of properties. Speed cameras everywhere. UK has 20% of worlds CCTV cameras, big brother is watching us. The UK is like a prison. Muslims are flexing there muscles and walk around in intimidating ninja dress so you can only see there eyes. Also mosques going up everywhere at 20 million each. Paid by tax payers. England Rest In Peace I am out of here next year and I won't miss it, only good ridance. I just hope i get out before the muslims have blew me up. Will miss seeing family. There are things you will be missing that are nice. But remember why you left and Britain is getting worse, people ARE getting poorer and more are getting in debt and poverty. The government is raising taxes year on year to try and fight the poverty. But with large influx on immigrants it is like throwing a bucket of water on a large fire. Just read the news mate, national papers etc on websites. You will see what i mean, all the above is in there.

BTW I live in Melbourne and have just spent the day laying on a beautiful beach with the scorching sun shining down on me sharing a glass of wine with 3 very good friends who I didn't even know a few months back and I wouldn't swap it for anything.

I dont want cause a row here either but there seems to be a big difference to emigrating than being an immigrant. Its costing us a fortune to upsticks and move to Oz. We will not be landing on a council's doorstop demanding a house, demanding living allowance, and we can speak English. We are also going because we want to, not because our country is war torn. I wont be walking around Oz with only my eyes showing (although OH says I should - cheeky pig). The immigration influx into britain is totally different from our situation, why? cos Oz wont let us in if we cant support ourselves and prove that we are willing to get jobs and not sponge off the local taxpayers, and THAT is why I'm going. I am willing to accept all religions and races, no probs, but why should my hard earned (already heavy) taxes build mosques etc for immigrants who cant speak a word of english and I am expected to help personally fund the rennovation of our own local church. sorry but something is very wrong with Britain nowadays and I want better for my kids. The way things are going my kids would be better of in jail. They would be guaranteed 3 squares a day, heating, blankets, privacy, and a roof over their heads. Sorry but I cant sit back and wait for that to happen.

Is England a bad place? I don't know about that, I just know it is not where I want to be, it is not where I want my children to grow into young people and it is not where I want to grow old with Mrs Impatient (she is sat next to me so I had to say that).

I love the outdoors, the sea and the sun. I can't imagine the smallies growing up somewhere where their school has no sports pitches and I end up working until I am 70 to afford a family house.

The way I look at it, at the very least even if Oz is just as messed up as the UK, at least I will be able to afford a house, my children will play sport and Brizzie is gonna be a whole lot warmer than Blighty!

we totally agree that england is going or has already gone to the dogs, the maount of stabbing's shooting's etc is escalating daily we went to our local pub on st patricks day an a fella was stabbed in front of us, you never think it will happen of your own doorstep.
we believe that we will have a better life in oz and our children will have a better future, obviously oz is not crime free.

sorry about your nephew

Maybe I won't go as far as some, but I think I have outgrown the place. I am embarrassed to say that I have no pride in the country or the flag anymore for all the reasons above.

The lack of patriotism generally makes me want to heave - and that includes me! Everyone seems to be working for their own goals, obsessed with owning a £500000 house and a Range Rover Sport, while complaining that their children have nowhere safe to play, using that as an excuse for the Playstation generation of obese children.

Everyone whinges about the nanny state, but demands that they and their families are looked after by that state. Everyone complains (rightfully) about problems with immigration, but do not want to pay wages that a normal person with a mortgage needs to earn.

I cannot bear to watch the sports teams because of the lack of passion - I am dying for someone to get angry that they lost a game!

I am sure after another 100 or so posts on this site that I will mellow a bit....

I agree with these views about England. I'm a little different from most because my Mum and Dad died at 42 and 44 from cancer related illnesses within 3 months of each other, so I have a real strong sense that everything you take for granted CAN and DOES change quickly. The one positive thing that came out of that was the feeling that we are here for such a short time and if you want to do something - you just go for it. I've never taken the sensible option since then about anything and have just jumped into everything that takes my fancy, to live life to the full. So, for us its's simple we don't like living in England anymore and Australia is offering everything that will make us happy. It also helps that my sister and her husband and children are going with us aswell! Life should be one big adventure, and if a fraction of that courageous attitude of moving to the other side of the world rubs off on all our children then I'm sure they will have the drive to have an adventurous life as adults aswell.
