I HAVE COME OUT ON A 136 SKILLED VISA (PLUMBER)

EARLY DAYS SO FAR BUT i WANT TO PUT A QUESTION TO THOSE WHO KNOW

AM i RESTRICTED TO HAVING TO BE A PLUMBER OR CAN I GO IN A TOTAL DIFFEERENT DIRECTION AND WORK IN A DIFFERENT INDUSTRI WORKING FOR A COMPANY OR EVEN BUYING MY OWN BUSINESS?

Hi John

Welcome to Oz (we came from Essex too almost 4 years ago).

On a 136 once you are here you can do whatever occupation you choose.

You can start as a sole trader anytime (self employed) you just need to get a Tax File Number and ABN number from the Tax Office.

Our agent told us we OH could sell ice cream on beach when we arrived if he wanted he too is a plumber. So any reason for wanting to a change. Where are you two at the minutes?????????

me and the wife are of to nsw in july. we are on the 136 visa. i am a plater(steel fabricator). you can do anything you like on this visa workwise or where you live. i worked as a steel fabricator in oz '91-'92 and it was very uncomfortable working in the heat. so when we get out there i wouldn't mind a change in career, even just labouring. i am just about to leave my job in the uk, i've been there 3 years production line welding, pipe welding & maintenance work, in a local steel mill,(its like something from the victorian era, dark ,gloomy and filthy), if i have to do this in oz so be it,(ok if the money is good), but i'd rather do something different, i suppose time will tell. best of luck in oz.

Hiya we came on this visa with hubbys skills as a diesel mechanic ,he is doing at the mo but when we are settled he fancys a change,he has been a mechanic since levin school and fancys a cleaner job were hes not covered in oil every day ,he actually fancys bein a postie on a motorbike here,or working at the zoo ,but i think the zoo may be abit risky they may get him confused with the gorillas and cage him up !!

We are on our way to Brisbane form Darwin (driving) not sure ware to settle or what to do once we get there. But I have always wanted a change maybe this is the right time to do it. From what I see the wages are not that good for plumbers and what with the time and money re-training to gain my licence I may concider buying a little buisiness or go work in a Zoo (I do like that idea) thanks Cal.
But not sure I'll see whats about when we are there.

Hello Kiki

I do hope so. Little hard work and posative thinking and I think it'll work in a lot of ways it has to I really do not want to go back to the mother land.
I think once we find a place we like things will fall into place
