Unhappy pets flying to oz

Hello All,
Can anyone tell me the protocol for sending 2 dogs and 1 cat over to Sydney via aeroplane. can anyone recommend a good airline? Just had a chat with a friend who states some airlines may refuse to take certain breeds. We have 2 healthy short nosed dogs who are under 3 years and one 16 year old cat who may or may not come with us. Does anyone check the animals in between flights, only ive had horror stories of my pets being left alone in a crate for 24 hours unchecked. Not made any definate plans yet, just enquiring before I make the wrong decision. any advice much appreciated.

I'm sure you'll get some really good advice, but until then please don't worry. I know lots of people who have brought their dogs over. All the animals look healthy, and I've only heard positive things about the high level of care and attention afforded the animals.

I think it's a bit like when I was pregnant. Some people went out of their way to tell me what could go wrong, and how horrible the whole process was, but I just stuck my fingers in my ears and ignored them! (I wonder if I should remove my fingers any time soon?)

So, don't fret...until someone tells you otherwise....

Red face

Hi..
Im not worried yet as are only in the reckie visit stages. I just want to make sure my pets are not going to be left unattended for the duration of the trip. Being short nosed dogs they potentially could suffer more with their breathing compared to normal nosed dogs. Especially if left on a delayed aircraft sitting on a hot tarmac. Dont suppose they could travel first class with us ??(yeah like I could afford it even if they did say yes).

Hi We're taking our 2 dogs sometime this yr.
So far I've had 2 quotes from Golden Arrow and Airsupply shipping. There are loads of companies out there though.
As far as I know the dogs are checked during stops but cannot be let out or the cages opened. They can top up the water supply though but dont feed them at all.
You need to check about short nosed breeds as I'm sure some arent allowed to fly, Sorry I dont know which ones.
Also the quarentine stations have about a 5 month waiting list, so need to be booked in advance.
Hope this helps a little, we're looking at it costing about £4000 at least for the two (retrievers) of them.

Hi

We went with Airpets. Our dog came over fine. They do check them when they land however they don't come out of the cage until they get to quarantine in Sydney. You can buy some of those pads to go in the bottom of the cage that old people have (like the ones Lazy Cow uses as she can't be bothered to use the loo), then it is a bit more comfortable for them. When we picked our dog up there were all sorts of different dogs in there, so I am sure yours will be fine. However I know how you are feeling. Our dog has had no ill effects and she loves it over here, best move we made bringing her.
