Help!!!

We are trying to get organised and plan what documents we will need to have in our luggage with us for when we get to Australia.

We have started a list off and would be grateful if any of you can add things that you think would also be useful to have to hand on arrival.
  • passports
  • insurance documents
  • proof of no claims
  • utility bills
  • bank statements - but how many?
  • credit card statements - to prove we pay them
  • mortgage statement - again to prove we pay the mortgage
  • medical / dental / optician documents
  • we have no landlord references so would write a letter explaining who we are, where we're from etc.
  • certificates and evidence used for skills assessment
  • certificates and work stuff for OH to gain employment
Good job we get extra luggage allowance - looks like we're going to need a suitcase for this little lot.

Please help us out (those of you already there) and tell us what you took.

Hi Felicity
I am sure I read on a post from calngary to take certified copies of passports etc as she required them for renting ,or something like that and she said that when you are over there it is really difficult to get certified copies of anything, because you dont know anyone.
How relevant this is i dont know?, it may help, it may not

In SA there are loads of JP's around. JP's are just ordinary people who are able to certify documents / passport stuff etc. I believe you can get a list from the library, council office and so on.

When we needed to get something certified for our mortgage (a declaration we would be able to pay, as Paul didn't yet have a job), we went to a solicitor. A solicitor here is expensive and doesn't usually handly such basic stuff. Luckily the guy we saw helped us for free, probably astounded at our stupidity.

Any letters from your conveyancer/solicitor showing that the property sale has completed would be a good idea,
we also brought proof to show that we had paid our car loan off and it just helps with some agents etc.& if you want to get credit here in oz.
Any copies of if you are going to use a "power of attorney".
Out of uk telephone numbers for banks (if still holding account in uk) as these out of uk numbers are suppose to be cheaper
also your uk driving licence as you will need this obtain an aussie licence
any stat decs you have (godforbid if they went astray)
any special documents regarding divorce/courts/kids etc if applicable and also for your furry friends any vet records/vaccination cards, all in all basicly everything but you can leave the kitchen sink behind !!!!!

Dear Gizmo,
I have a real problem with your avatar. Could you please change it to something a little less tasty?

Yours dribbling-ly,

Certified copies of stuff are easy to get. most major shopping centres have a JP that is there no a certain day every week. if u r prepared to go and wait you can get whatever you want done FOR FREE!!

We did this when we moved house. We got loads of pages done and only had to wait just under an hour for the JP.
