Does it matter whats in your suite case???

Iv been wondering what to do with my electricians hand tools, either ship them on there own or stick them in my case. Does anyone know if it matters if they are in the case i.e do i need to declare them in any way??

Stu

Hi Stu,
Good question. I'm going to take a tool bag with me and check it in as luggage ( I will only have essentials in it as it is so heavy at the moment!). Before I book my flight though I will check with whatever airline I decide to go with (probably Emirates) for any advice.
I feel that because shipping takes so long and tools can be expensive these days that I'll need to take tools with me so that I can start work asap.
I have travelled within the UK with my tool bag on flights and checking it in as luggage has not been a problem, however, this was before they tightened up on security. It shouldn't be a problem if it is in the hold (I hope!) - the weight of the tools might use up most of the additional emigration allowance though.

Our flights are booked for june with air new zealand so we'v got the 46kg allowence so iguess one of my bags would be just for tools and meters. Im taking my best hand tools and all test meters. Wanted to take my 24v drill but i guess thats a no,no! Think i'll ring the air line tomorrow just to play safe. We arnt shipping any gear so i wanted to avoid that whole process!

Hi Stu,
My hubby is an aussie citizen and he came back to the uk (to meet with me) for 4 years, he is a carpenter and when he returned to the UK along with a few clothes he had all his carpenter tools in racksacks & bags that went in the hold of the plane. I know its the oter was around oz to uk - but he didnt have any problems getting them out of oz or in to the uk.

Hi Stu,
I e-mailed Emirates airline about tools, they said it's fine to check them in as luggage but just to watch the weight.
