Hi Mandy and gail

Isnt it rather strange that I came back to Australia after a departure of 18 years and was granted rent assistance, parenting payment and family assistance and i only contributed to the Australian Gov for about 6 months when here before. You would think if any country was going to be difficult then it would be Oz not UK!!! Maybe the UK Gov is just bitter that we tried to get away and then they want to punish us on our return (assuming we may want to return). It makes me very angry

If you come back destitute with no money (assuming you get into that sit) are they gonna let you and your little ones kip on someones floor then???
I will lokk at BE website and see what they say. Isnt a crazy unfair world

I think the be site is a bit like the daily mail newspaper if you know what i mean! (and i stopped reading that because it wound me up so much lol).
Dont get me wrong (i do post on it and talk to some nice people) but they do seem more negative than pio lot. I do think you need to read this negative stuff too so that you get an all round prospective though, if you only read the good stuff you could be disappointed.
Me & my oh discuss it all the time and really it depends on what you want out of life, hes a brickie but doesnt earn a huge wage here could do but chose not too, would rather spend his time with family,we class ourselves as well off but not in the money sense as we have a nice house with country views, we dont spend loads of money going out etc, life is good.
But we still want to leave and maybe it is a risk of losing what we have, but when what we have is each other what do we have to loose?
We have the same reasons for leavin as most of you though and that is for our kids future, also the fact that our gov doesnt like to help us hard workers, we`ve spent last few years extending our house ourselves (working every blinkin weekend on it hence why we dont go out!), then you find council will put poll tax up coz its bigger, but we dont earn anymore so how we supposed to pay that! now the homebuyer pack need i say more.
We`re not going with rose tinted specks, i know oz will have its problems too, but i have friends already there and they say the good far outways the bad & we are all in the same boat on here, we are all going to get the jitters (i feel sick with nerves at times) but we`ve reached that age (middleage you know the one) when you know you`ve just got to try these things before its to late

Hunters117
Hi

Hi Everyone

We are hoping to move to Oz later on this year. I originally came over here on a 2 year working visa and 18 years later I am hoping to return, along with husband and 2 kids.

We have all the usual worries, are we doing the right thing? Can we afford it? What happens if it doesn't work out? Could we lose everything?

After thinking about this for a long time we have finally decided that we have to at least try to make a go of it. I know its not going to be easy and I wish that we had done it years ago but I know that we can give our kids a better life, thats why we are doing it.

Life is for living.

Good luck to everyone.

The Hunter Family

Smile Worries?

After reading all your worries on here it feels like a cold face cloth on a sweating brow!!! - bit profound but d'you know what i mean? It's just nice to know that everybody feels the same. At times in the 4 years that we've hummed and aarghed about whether to actually do it and emigrate we keep thinking of reasons why we shouldn't go and we keep thinking different things at different times - i go through the stage of but we've got a good life here why change that and risk everything for the unknown. I class myself as very lucky because i love the place and people where i work and my job and so does my oh. Our boys are happy and settled in school with 'good' friends and we have our family around us etc etc and some friends have said they wouldn't dare to move away and why would we but although i know we've got a good life and me and my oh have got our history and child hood here our boys have got the rest of their lives to 'get right' and that's what makes me think we have to do it - yes we've got a good life right now but will they have a good life in 5 10 or 20 years?? or will they be in the middle of a war drafted in to fight for their country?? or in a war fighting for a job or for a house they can afford or for a good school for their children??? a friend said a few years ago which really give me the willies (so to speak) and made me think - don't worry about all the immigrants we know about coming into our country now, worry about those we don't know about who are coming to take over our country...
If it works out and we manage to get into aus, whether it works out or not for us over there, then we tried and we can't regret not having a go... regret those things you have done rather than those you never did!!!!
Donna x
