Hiya the nurserys here are called kindy most are run by the ABC company,an average cost is $27 pr day ,they do a family day care ,which is like a childminder and your child goes to their home i believe this is slightly cheaper but have no figures,Centrelink will contribute to child care costs dependant on which visa you have ,an example ,,,,if you are working or actively seeking work for a total of 15hrs per week ,you will recieve approx 94% of child care costs as long as your joint income is around $37,000 ,,hope this helps

I would have the 15 year old and 12 year old in exchange for my 23 month old anyday. At least the older ones get my jokes. Also I can sulk and shout along with the best of them. I always manage to get the last word................my 14 year old has tried his hardest but I always win....I have to power. Now the little un, she runs rings round me, must be going soft in my old age.

PS Sorry can't help with the husband, one adolescent hubby is more than enough. can only suggest buying a lovely big shed once you're over there (What is it about men and sheds???)

The reson i worked evenings in the uk is the job i do dosnt pay great and garys earnings were always above the threashold,,here im doing the same job 3 hrs a day and Jodi goes to nursery 4 days ,its financially viable with centrelinks help as Gary is still classed as casual and some weeks is only doing 3 days so keeping under the earnings line ,i think we will be better off staying this way than taking wage rises ,,

Hi
My experience is child care here is really no cheaper than Britain. Day childcare is approx $50 to $59 per day in Melbourne. Although with centrelink help it is now reduced to $26 per day. Now remember if you go over a certain amount of pay then they will cut this help. we also have found that sometimes its better to ask for slightly less pay so you dont go over the threshhold. Most people who arent big earners dont bother to work and put kiddies in Kinder instead which is only about 2 hours a day. It is a shame that the gov doesnt subsidise children when they turn 3 like in Britain. I will have to pay for my some at day care til he is 5 years old thats an extra years money to fork out!
Very confusing system as well i find

$50 - $59 per day is still cheaper than many parts of the Uk. I pay £29 per day for my little one to go to nursery and that's in the Nort West. Down South it can be over £50 per day. Either way ait equates to between $75 and $125. I know the wages are less though in Oz so maybe as a proportion of salary it works out the same.
