Hello all only just starting with visa application, filling in forms and gathering info and references etc for TRA. Weve hit the first hurdle and its a big one. Decided to look further ahead and try and find marriage certificate as we know its not to hand searched high and low know where to be seen,No problem we thought just get another copy HOW WRONG WE WERE.We got married in the Dominican Republic ten years ago through thomson holidays.Easy, ring thomson again we were wrong,Just had the shock of our lives the lady at thomson has told us if you get married abroad you are supposed to register it on your return at your local registry office.NO ONE TOLD US,turns out we are probably not legally married, funny thing is i always said lisa was just borrowing my name, looks like i was right.
Hi Lisa we got married in sri lanka and when we started this process my friend said to me that she heard that if u get married abroad u should register your marriage here within so many days.well we had got married a few years before starting this process so it was too late to do it here,so like u i paniced,i phoned our local registry office to see if this was right and it appears it depends on what country u get married in and that we were fine,we were legally married here.so maybe give your local registry office a ring.hope this makes sense and i hope u find out u r legall married Helen
Leave me a post tomorrow to let me know what they say ,i will keep everything crossed .We have our medicals tomorrow.so lets hope we both get good news Helen
hi we got married in mexico and we were told that you cany register it here and your marriage can only be registered in the country you were married. however as more people marry abroad there is now a book of acknoledgement that you can enter. we were assured that our marriage was legal here by the authorities. if it turns out yours is not you can always have a quick one in a registry office just the two of you so its legal but still celebrate your dominican wedding anniversary. if you got married in a hotel contact them, or contact the registry office in dominican, the travel agents wont want to bother helping you as your not booking a holiday. good luck and let us know but do some digging, you can only get a copy of your original from dominican authorities though.

Hope everything went ok with your medicals today. We had some news today we are married and we can get a copy of our marriage certificate off Dom Rep Emb. So we are going to try that
Thanks for your info , found out today that we are married and we have to contact Dom Rep Emb for a copy of license. Thomsons did ring back today and let us know that they can organise a copy of our license and it would cost us only £40.
Up all night worrying what if we weren't married and like you thought lets just get married again in the registry office, but thankfully we won't have too.
