How many of you guys are renting your houses out??

Are you renting or selling your houses??? Im renting mine but i keep hearing the old horror stories and its starting to worry me! Spent a fair old bit of money on it the last couple of years and dont want it wrecked. I want to rent it until we'r 100% sure oz is for us! Even the 2 plasma's are staying up on the wall, cant take em down as the rooms wouldnt be right without them there. Must be mad. Can see me popping back in a year and they'l have been used as poker tables!

Never would we do it again

We spent a good while going through the do we sell/do we rent scenario! Our house is only 2 years old and we love it so much (wish we could ship it over!) but like you we heard so many horror stories about renting so have now opted to sell.
Just keep talking about it together and I'm sure you'll soon make the right decision. Good luck.

Hi Stu,

We have opted to sell as well. Like you we have spenbt a small fortune on our house, and I didn't want it wrecked and be worth less in value! Also didn't want the hassle or worries from the other side of the world.

The view we took is that as much as we love our house (and believe me we do) it is only bricks and mortar at the end of the day. But having said that it is a tough decision.

Good luck

Heather

Renting

We are going to rent our place out, we only have a small flat in London but we think that if we ever did want to come back to Blighty we would never be able to get back on the property ladder. Maybe once we are in Oz our thought will change but seeing as we have never visited and are just taking the plunge we feel it best to play it safe on that score. Also we get great tax felief by owning a property in the Uk which is making my husbands pay package more feasible.
(new at this immigration game and still learning)

Flogging it! Totally diving straight in. Also saving like crazy/building up the value and equity in our house so we're going with as much ready cash as possible to put straight into our new house - figure if our equity is strong over there if it all goes horribly wrong we would be able to crawl back onto the housing ladder here if we had to (it aint happening though - I'm missing the wobbles and just giddy with excitement about the whole thing!!)

Scarletfever will become famous soon enough
Hi Stu, I've got a few terraced houses which I rent out. The first few were mint, money no object, I stupidly thought that people would appreciate a nice little house with all mods cons and would also attract a better sort of person. It worked, I did attract professional family people who I thought, 'Great, they'll appreciate the house and take care of it'.

Bloody hell, what a nightmare!!! They must have been psychos'. Doors kicked in, carpets ruined (don't know with what, but it smelt like death!!!) furniture torn and beds?..........you can imagine. Okay, you've got the bond, but its never enough to cover the damage.

I still rent the houses out but only leave basic furniture there. There a bog standard kitchen and bathroom there, I get the same money for them so why bother making it any nicer.

I'm defo going to sell the bloody lot and get rid. Plasma Screens? my advice sell them while they're worth something!!

Sorry to sound so negative, I've found that nobody respects your stuff.

We are renting ours out, but we are lucky that my brother is going to rent it from us.

If we really love it there and we want to buy we will probably have to sell the uk house. We will have to see how it goes.

Unhappy

Although I do not miss my house really, I would say rent out. Our sale completed on 10 November - we were on the plane on 19 November 2006 - 20 November 2006 I wanted to come home and have ever since . We have to wait until end of this year before we can return. Going to be with the inlaws until we can find something we like - even going back to the same village - just want to slip back in to our old lives - but we sure will appreciate our family and friends more - its taken us moving to the otherside of the sodding world for us to realise how much we love and need them around us.
