Emirates or Singapore Airlines?

Hi, just wondered if anyone had any info on which is the better airline? If we go with Emirates we can fly from Birmingham which is half an hour away but will cost £300 more than going from Heathrow with Singapore Airlines.

We can't decide whether to make the kids travel all the way to Heathrow to save the extra money?

Any info would be appreciated.

Sarah

I have to say that I've heard nothing but good reviews of Singapore, but only reasonable reviews of Emirates. That said, we've booked with Emirates from Birmingham to Brisbane in May to avoid having to travel to Heathrow (we're in the Midlands as well), but at the time I booked there was a price difference in Emirates favour of about £500 for the 4 of us. It probably helped that I had a discount code from HSBC to quote which knocked off about £150.

If you hunt around enough with some of the flight specialists you should be able to get a good deal.

We flew with Singapore Airlines in October and they were amazing.

The kids (aged 7&9) never once asked if they were there yet, their inflight tv service was really, really good for the kids and adults all round.

We ended up turning down the last meal as they fed us all the way there and the steward/ess really took an interest in the children and made them feel special.

I have never flown with Emirates so can't compare but I would def. fly with Singapore again.

Hi!
We flew with Emirates from B'ham to Brisbane in December.
We wanted a B'ham flight cos of being closer to home on return.
They were good, prob fed us TOO much & our 10 year old was wired when we arrived in Oz cos of all the entertainment!
They brought my OH champagne & cake cos it was his birthday on the flight.Trouble was we had just dozed off, only to be woken by a rendition of Happy Birthday & the flash of a polaroid camera!!!!
(a particularly bad shot of me,trying to look happy but with an evil glint in my eye!)

Hi
We flew Singapore airlines too. Excellent, would highly recommend them and our kids 11, 10 & 7 were entertained the whole time. In fact, don't think we would fly with anyone else.

Had a removal agent (Robinsons) round to give us a quote today and she gave us a disc with a pin number for Moving Planet. When you log on you can get a discount with Emirates and a 50kg baggage allowance. The flight tickets for the 4 of us was £210 cheaper than if we went without the discount.

Singapore all the way! have flown both....emirates not a patch on singapore. Some of the cabin crew were a bit mardy on emirates..Singapore couldn't do enough for you plus OH thought the lady cabin crew were scrummy!! Lots of food too on Sing...im a vegi and actually enjoyed my meals...was fed so much had to turn down a toblerone couple of hours from Bris. Very unlike a chocoholic! Singapore airport is really open and airy unlike Dubai which is very long and narrow!

Dave53 is an unknown quantity at this point
I have flown both Emirates from Brum and Singapore Airlines from Heathrow on a few occasions to Sydney . I think Singapore Airlines is the best Airline to fly , but only marginally . Emirates has the best in flight entertainment by a long way , but Singapore just wins with its in flight service . There is no doubt Emirates operates a very convenient schedule with connections from Brum via Dubai , its aircraft are newer too . Its a toss up really . Me ... I would choose Emirates from Brum . Thats what I will do on my next return to England . Hope I have not confused the matter further .. By the way if BA or Qantas is offered , give them both a big MISS , unless the tardiness of BA or the searly attitude of Qantas appeals ..
