Heather, im sure she is just trying to cover her back by saying that. Maybe if we do go down this avenue its better to use an agent who know more about this kind of visa. You r so right about the "going for it" phylosophy (sp) I think Im finding it hard to get my head round as it would prob have to be me who studies as OH is an office based kind of guy so bricklaying is so out for him ! The idea of going to oz would have included the idea that I could be home with the girls more rather than having to work longer. But I suppose in a way we might just have to roll reverse (he'll never do it with 2 kids would rather go to work lol) to have a better furture in the long run. Its all about the bigger picture really.

I notice you mentioned the studyinaustralia website for courses, did u just email them and say what you were looking for and where u wanted to go?? Have u still used an agent for the visa??

Thanks for the info

Hi Em

Many construction trades (except Painter and Decorator) were placed on MODL on 15th December 2005.

I am only guessing but, with teh severe shortages of contruction trades, I would be very surprised if Bricklayers came off the MODL in the next 3 years. If they did, I would be even more surprised if they were not on Some State's STNI list or SIR list (Queensland don't do STNI). I would be less confidant that Cook and Hairdresser will still be on although Pastry Cook has always been in demand. I will post next week's lotto numbers next.

Regards

Hi Tony,

Thanks for that! I think that Heather was on about the bricklaying course. It was more hairdressing that I was looking at this bricklaying be a bit hard going for me especially in that heat lol.

Can u tell me when Hairdresses went onto the MODL?

Thanks

sorry about your bad news Em im gutted for you i know how much you wanted to go xxx

how old are you? can you not study hairdressing over here for a couple of years? i think quite a lot of people are going down the student visa route - we looked at it but we just cant afford to do it that way.

Tony - if we did get the money together and i studied in oz could my husband work as a plasterer for 20 hours a week or would he need to pass a test before he was able to work? i know he would have to get a licence to be self employed but could he just go and work for someone else with out having to pass tra? then at the end of the two years if we applied for pr would they take in to account his plastering experience along with what ever i study?

em let me know how you get on hun xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi chelle,

Im 33 so still a little time to play with, hubby 37. I have been in touch with Tony and I could do the hairdressing course 2yrs full time, would need to work sat's to make up the practical experince. Problem is cant see how hubby could work 20 around that with 2 little ones who are not in school. So although we would be taking some money with us we would have to live on that. I am also concerned that the idea of going out there is for me to work less to spend these early years with the girls when in fact Im going to be working 6 days a week and worrying about money.......so nothing much with change lol.

Just dont know if that is viable for us.

thast why we dont want to do it - like you say you have time - why dont you do the hairdressing over here and go mobile to get experience?

my husband has done a plastering course and is building up experience so that we can get in - it might take us longer but its the only way we can do it

Thinking of that but not sure how much experience you need after qualifying? Cos my bloody luck it would be off the MODL by then lol
