Sending presents from Oz to UK

Hi,

A question for those Down Under....
what do you generally do for sending gifts back to Blighty?
Do you shop on line & arrange delivery or choose pressies & post them yourselves?
Can you easily send money without being wholloped with bank charges?

Thanks,
Paula

Hi Paula.

I send them via the post office it's expensive usually costs me more to send than it costs to buy. Christmas in particular is expensive when sending several parcels all the kids are probably sick of soft toy koalas ,kangaroos and boomerangs.
You just go to the post office fill out a form show some ID then they weigh the parcel.
Gets to UK quickly though mine have arrived sometimes in a week although cards can take up to two weeks to arrive.
I have friends that have shopped online at Argos and had them deliver , I like to send things they can't get at home.
I have never sent money home so I couldn't tell you sorry.
Sue

Hi Paula.
You could do it on line but with exchange rate its easier to buy the pressie and post, i sent one gift to one of my daughters in feb and another daughter ust last week (birthdays) and it cost me $38 which is insured for $150 plus signed for the other end, i get all of the $150 if it goes missing. The parcel obviously depends on weight, in the 2nd parcel to give you an idea was 2 cards letter, pjs, perfume and 2 handbags.
hope this give you some idea

Hi have some very quick deliveries from the uk to oz, one card i received last year arrived in oz 2 days after the uk postmark stamp on the envelope now thats speedy,(no word of a lie, i coudnt believe my eyes) all of the parcels i have received have always been 5 to 7 days not too bad, only had one opened and that was this week - among the gifts was a pot pourri set and customs ceazed that and left me a note in the parcel saying $42.50 to either have it cleaned (take 6 weeks) or return to sender for $42.50 - if i didnt contact then in 30 days item would be destroyed
they are very strict on what comes into to oz.

I sent some childs P.J's to Uk and it cost $16 to send which is quite expensive, having said that when i was in the UK it cost me £10 to send a set of cot sheets to my sister in law. I'm considering using the internet and doing stuff that way, so all the kids will get games from woolies and Lush products for the ladies.

Hi Ya

We do one of two things but in general we go on line (especially using E Bay UK) and use the local E bay and delivery is quick and you save on postage and any other delays.

The second we send specific items as required or requested.

Kind regards

Chris
