Anybody took their cat with them?

Has anybody took a cat over to oz with them?
What is involved? Do they need to be quarantined etc?
Our cat is getting on a bit, so not sure what is the best for him

Hi there

We're taking our 2 cats with us, I could't bear to be without them!

Most of the pet transport companies are really expensive but do everything for you.

We've opted to go with Airpets who are by far the cheapest and it allows us to do all the paperwork ourselves which is really straightforward.

Quarantine is 30 days, the conditions are meant to be very good and you can visit them most days. We were told that so long as your cat is in good health, they will be fine to travel, regardless of age. Apparently cats travel well and adapt very quickly. My aunt took her elderly cat over a few years ago and he enjoyed a really happy life in Perth.

Let me know if you need more details, I have tons of info and all the relevant forms etc to download from DEFRA.

Take care

Hi

We brought our 15 year old cat Becky with us. We did go to our vet first and ask him to check her over and asked what was the best thing. He gave her a full 'geriatric work up' bloods etc. (sure he wanted to make some money!!) and said she was healthy and fine to go. - You don't need to do this but we didn't want to promise the kids she's be coming if she wasn't.

We used a company called Pets on the Move, because they had an office in Chorley Lancs near where we lived. They sorted out all the paper work, booked her into quarantine, collected her from our house, took her to the vets (they have something given them for tics etc.) and took her to the airport. It cost £1,300.

Quarentine is 30 days and we paid $600 when we collected her. You do need to book Quarentine well in advance when we made initial enquiries in August last year they were already booking for December 06.

Ali

Hi Gary

We did but this was 5 years ago a lengthy process and try to hold the cat until the last few days as they will be in Quarantine 30 days but this gives you ample time to fully use for searching all other aspects - house, schools etc without the cat or the cat getting lost.

Need any help let me know - cost all in 700 GBP ($1700 AUD)

Hi Gary

We've paid 800 GBP for the 2 cats. Ali has made a good point, you need to book early if your heading to Perth as Byford gets full really quickly. I don't think its as hard on the east coast though.
Hope this help, let me know if you need any more info
