Hmmm knew there would be something fishy going on! It'll be another Millenium Dome that no-one wanted in the first place but did they ask anyone anyway! Right I've wasted too much energy thinking about this, must get on and get the dog booked on a flight, that's what I told my OH I was going to do this afternoon!
Good Luck to everyone in your Visa process, it has got to be the single most stressful thing we've encountered but well worth it when you get that all important e-mail and your passports back with the sticker in it!
yes, we have heard it too off some friends who live ib Grays, Essex - certain council estate tenants have been offered money to move from East London to Grays! so much for looking after our own its all in the name of image and money.
FANTASTIC POST! and great replies,I have just been offered a job in sydney,it has all happened really quickly and to be honest since the contract came thru 2 days ago we have had to break it to family that we are considering moving out there and this means taking our 1 year old grandson away from everyone.
We are expected to leave in 3 months and for the last few weeks we have been talking non stop about if we are doing the right thing, since i gotoffered the job and sent the contract to sign the pressure is getting quite immense and i have to decide in the next few days, this post and its replies has not only clarified what me and the missus have been discussing but has once and for all inspired me to sign the contract and get on that plane, thanks REDAUSSIES and the rest of you GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL!

The starting price was £35,000 but it anywhere around £100,000 for people to move out of London to make way for the olympics, is this country crazy.
Wot...... Up to £100,000... you gotta be kidding ????????

No afraid not and these are council tenants, what a laugh, we cant't even afford to move house in our own area because all these people have got a £100 k in the pockets they are sending the houses prices round our way to over a quarter of a million, and you be lucky to get a 3 bed terraced, and the goverment want to build a new prison down the road from us.
Far from being annoyed at Redausssies post, I couldn't agree more. I find that every little that I come across in my home town annoys me more and more, from the lousy traffic that means a Saturday afternoon drive across the town centre takes until Sunday morning, to the crappy weather that means the car doors are frozen shut and piled with 5 inches of snow.
Every day more and more depression arrives, heroin related deaths on our doorsteps, employment under threat, extra taxes to mean that less and less of the money that I have to work harder and harder to earn is mine, further useless development in an already crowded island.
Okay, so we hear that Australia is imperfect, but compared to what we now have in the UK it seems like paradise.
Personally I can't wait to depart, and I will be on the plane in an instant to the first Oz employer that will have me, and I won't miss a thing.
No, wait! I'll miss...................er.......................no , gone again.
Sorry for the rant, need a to spend a nice couple of weeks living next to a Brisbane beach to calm me down. Oh, that's in May, yippeee!!
fantastic post, everybody has second, third thoughts are we doing the right thing. we are sticklers for routine and like to know where we are at in life. we are moving to oz as we want a better future for ourselves and our children. we belive that oz has more opportunities and a better/healthier lifestyle. if we are wrong at least we tried and can be proud of the fact that we gave it our best shot, moved to the other side of the world to the unknown and experienced what a lot of others havent got the bottle to do.
if all else fails and oz is not for us we will definatley move somewhere other than the UK.

Hi Jen
Totally agree with you re decline of NHS service and can appreciate your concerns working there, hopefully your invaluable experience will be more appreciated in Australia! I was astounded today when speaking to Mum (she and Dad are still in UK) when she told me that Dad had gone to see their Practise Nurse as he had ear pains and thought it might be a build up of wax. The new nurse there told him she wasn't qualified to check ears as they were not longer trained in this (surely routine!) procedure and said rather than wait for GP appointment would be quicker to go to one of the NHS walk in centres! He did this and was told there that they couldn't deal with him either and gave him a phone number of a GP that could......not their own! What a total palaver for what surely is the most simple and routine of 'health' problems - if the NHS can no longer cope with such minor problems what confidence does it give any of us if we are REALLY ill and worried about something?
Take care
