Hi All

We are moving to Brisbane in the very near future and our failmy would'nt be complete without taking our 2 year old boxer dog 'Bailey'
Just a few questions has anyone transported their dog / how much did it cost and how are they managing in the heat.

Thanks look forward to hearing from you

Hi

We are taking our two westies with us when we hope to go in September. I will cost you about £2500 but you need to check and take advice about what to do and when. Try Airpets for a quote as the company we are using is in Bristol..

Loads of people have dogs in Brisbane, they cope .... Your dog is still young so I am sure he/she will adjust fine..

Regards

hello, not taking ours as i think the flight and being in quarentine would probably kill him, he gets very stressed for a staff, will hopefully leave him with my parents or our friends, will miss him but dont think its fair to put him through all the trauma.

Scarletfever will become famous soon enough
We've got this problem but only worse.............We have 5 dogs, 4 ferrets and a Bird of Prey!!! Falconry is Illegal in Oz so the bird doesn't go. The ferrets are already geared to go to a friend of mine when the time is right, but the dogs are a real problem.
I have a 6 year old Staff who hates all other bitches and I can't see many peple taking her on. I have 3 working terriers who won't be happy inside a house so its going to have to be like minded people as myself who'd only be interested in them. (I don't know anybody with a mind like mine...................)
The last dog I've got is a 6 month old Lurcher who follows me around like a shadow. All the family love her to bits, even more as she is a bit of a swck and stays in the house. I'd love to take her, but the thought of the 30 days quarantine may be too much for her. She whines and yelps all the time I'm in work and works herself up into a right state. She's a typical family dog who craves human attention.
Does anybody know how much contact the dogs have with people in these places where they're held in quarantine. I've heard that you can go and visit the dogs there, but I'm not sure if that'd be a good thing in this instance.
Dan

You have to register dogs over here and re-new it every few years ,you arent allowed more than 2 dogs unless you pay $300 for a special licence ,theres loads of boxers here so you shouldnt have a problem ,its just an expensive do ,,take care

Hi
We had our dog in quarantine in Perth and we had to visit her as they dont let them out often maybe twice a week if they are lucky. I dont think they dote on the dogs but they get cleaned out once a day so they will get contact then. Not sure about other q stations though. I can tell you that Molly was clean and healthy when we picked her up so in that respect they are cared for.
But they are only there 30 days and dogs dont comprehend time like humans. OUr dog is a real loving dog and she survived. In fact when we took her home with us i think she was more happy to be out than to seeing us!! Just think what she would prefer - 30 days in quarantine or never to see you again. But saying that, she would forget you soon enough if you could be sure of rehoming her somewhere nice. Your decision but i know its a hard one. It is hot here in summer but a lurcher is slim with a short coat so shouldnt be too bad and she is young too so all being well she would adjust.
On the down side though there are not that many good long walks here and a lot of places ask you to keep dogs on lead. If your dog likes to be adventurous dont forget a real snake problem and in Qland poisonous toads. Thats it now happy deciding.
(Personally if i could have i would have left Molly with a happy home in England)
Best wishes
Georgie

Smile dogs

It's a tough decision to make, have you any idea what the vets fees are like in Australia, when we go we will be renting to start with, maybe some places don't allow pets, and the cost of the flight would pay the rent for a few months. It's strange how we can all emigrate and leave our families behind, but would be upset at leaving the dog or cat.

I've noticed a couple of places here in Perth called Kennel Zones, and there are a number of kennels and catterys, I've assumed (but don't know) that because of possible noise they have to be in one area?
