Taking garden furniture,bikes....

Hello,

Not a major dilemma but can someone explain the situation with regards to shipping "outdoorsy" stuff,...specifically garden furniture & bikes.

Muddy things have to be steam cleaned..is that right? But where is that done,is it in Oz?
Our bikes are in pretty good nick (prob cos we don't ride them much!) & our gung-ho attitude of buying all new in Oz is fading away!Is there extra expense to add in having everything cleaned?

Thanks ever so,
Paula

Hi Paula

Try here:

http://www.daff.gov.au/content/outpu...A7D8C8015E4BDD

There is a number you can ring for more information.

I think (But am not sure) that the big removals companies like Allied Pickfords are willing to clean the stuff just before they pack it, to make sure that AQIS can't find fault with it on arrival in Oz.

Cheers

Gill

Hiya from what i learnt i think you are responsible for cleaning items, they have to be mint ,no soil or mud or customs here will huh you with a big bill,,i heard of a guy being charged $300 for a pair of gardenin boots with soil in the tread,he said the boots were only cheap and he would have binned them if he'd known ,,i think too ,pine and bamboo are difficult to get passed customs unless treated,,the only things i didnt bring and wish i had were any plastic 'little tikes '' type kids toys as they seem really expensive here ,,get cleaning and degreasing and you should be fine

Hi paula, like you we were thinking of seling everything and buying new, but thanks to these guys on the site we're realised that we shouldnt! i'm not sure on price, i'm sure you'll get loads of people letting you know, but i'm sure its still cheaper than selling at a fraction of the items worth and re buying.
sorry not much help, just wanted to say hi really!

Hi Hezza,
When our belonings arrived at Sydney customs they cleaned everything from golf clubs to our bbq to outside plant pots, bikes etc etc they even pulled our shoes and boots out of boxes and cleaned them too they are very fussy and will destroy anything that they are not happy with.
Never had such shiny shoes !!!!

Hi

With our bikes I cleaned the tyres first with hot soapy water that sprayed the tyres with Back to Black spray, they looked liked new, not expensive to do and no problems with customs.

We've brought bikes, garden furniture and equipment etc., Cleaned it with Jeyes cleaning fluid which made the house smell like hospitals used too!! Even though we know it was spotless we're still expecting a phone call from customs to say something isn't cleaned enough for their satisfaction.

Cal - Thanks for the tip about Little Tikes kids toys. Was going to give the lot away, but will re-think now.

I heard that Customs will fumigate sofa's and mattresses, is this true? If so any idea on how much they charge to do this?

Sam x
