Smile Get out in the country !!!!

Having spent A LOT of years working in the Eastern states of Aussie, ( contract farm work ) I am surprised to see that nobody seems to be interested in moving to the bigger country town s ? I understand that employment is usually the big issue ? But sometimes these towns (some small by British standards) have a very good go forward economy. And "trades" are very much in demand. Towns that spring to mind are ones like.... Wagga , Tamworth , Albury/Wodonga , Bendigo , Toowoomba ( biggest inland town in Oz) and a handful of others these are all Great towns ! And should be considered ? Cities are fine to visit ! But a city is a city the world over. Great to visit but would you really want to live there ? If you ever wanted to have a place in the country ? well you can in Aussie "MO"

Hello,

I am Australina and agree totally.....and many Australians do too as they are moving to regional cities.

Why? Lower cost of living especially property (depends because retirees can drive up prices in some palces e.g. Yarrawonga :)), employment and niche business opportunities, not too far from cities or coast, good health care, good local sport/community faciliites, becoming more cosmopolitan, and you will be able to participate in local community much more quickly.

In addition to those mentioned would also include, starting from SE Tasmania, Geelong (Fraser posts on here), Ballarat, Mildura, many towns along the Murry River Vic/NSW border, Wangaratta, Bairnsdale, Batemans Bay

For info on regionals see http://www.communityguide.com.au

Cheers Andrew

re country towns

i agree country town will be my choice although i have to be sympathetic to the missus and kids
all the places ive been looking at have been at least 80km from cities and a lot more property for the money
work, im relatively quite old so part time or full time anything will do me
the missus wants to work so that would be great.
the only downside is that people i know who moved last year say that you get all the creepy crawlies when you move inland or away from a suburb.
dont bother me though im looking forward to meeting a few snakes and spiders, love wildlife

Jeff in a perfect world the best thing to do would be to have a look around. But that costs. Dont know where your off to ? But we intend heading for the Hunter valley, up as far as Tamworth (which is just out of the valley) Tamworth is a town pushing 40,000 with a few other much smaller towns about. Listen the creepy crawlies are a fact of life but whens the last time you saw a live badger in the wild ? Thats how often you will see any snakes. As for red backs , yes they are common but you learn to live with it . (and get used to them , believe it or not !) And as for meeting them ? DONT HAHA more people get bit trying to kill them than they would if they just walked away . Good luck "MO"

Hi Mo ,
I agree with you about city living (not for me ) .,I've been offered a job in Towoomba by the council there and have sent my application forms back into them , We made the trip to Toowoomba last September ,and were very happy with what we found there , and the beach is only as long as from Birmingham to Weston-Super-Mud(Mare).

Hello Bonzer , Toowoomba Is a good place (bloody steep hill to get there though haha) It makes me laugh when people think Oz is all heat and sun ? I tell you they get some cold nights and good frosts around that area ! Good part of the country though. Ive got a mate just bought a piece of land down the hill at Gatton . he intends building on it. Good luck to you "MO"
