No Driving License

Help!

I travel to Perth on March the 5th and I've lost my driving license and there isn't enough time to get another.

Does anyone know if you can hire a car in Australia with just your passport and driving license number (which I have) as I have done this in Europe before?

Many Thanks

Steve.

Hi Steve,

We hired a car in Perth March 2006, and needed passport and licence.
As with everything in Australia, they're very strict and can't imagine that they will let you hire without an actual licence. What about phoning one of the big hire firms that operate over there (eg Avis) in this country and getting them to check? Would be really surprised if they did, though. We had to show passports just to book tickets on a ferry to Rottnest Island!

We're travelling to Perth soon too. On March 10th!

Cheers,
Rachel

Talking

I'VE FOUND IT!!!

Well, it's amazing what desperation can drive you to.

My license has been lost for over 3 years and I have had a thorough look for it several times and never found it. But I have always had an option e.g. use the wife or ring DVLA etc. But having no option has driven me to turning my house upside down and looking though up to 7 years worth of kept post and envelopes (why do we do that!!). And after 5 hours of solid searching I found it, wahey!

You may ask why I hadn't replaced it? Well simply because I've never had to; I'm just lazy.

My search gained a renewed vigour thanks to your post Rachel, thanks. Up until then I was still convinced that I had the option of using my passport and License number.

I hope your trip to Perth goes well.

All the best

Steve.
