Mobile Phone Tarrifs

Hiya,

hope someone can help me here.
I would like to know about mobile phone tarrifs, I am not so interested in contracts but more Pay As You Go, rates of local calls, text messages within Oz as well as abroad to UK and South Africa?Also, are there any deals on cheap rate calls abroad?

On the Moving Planet website, there was a good Vodaphone offer which you could set up before you leave U.K. Might be worth checking out..

Hi Eloise,
I brought my UK phone over and got it unlocked here. I then bought the vodaphone pay as you go sim - $30 with $30 worth of credit.

Its good, but tariffs are not as cheap as conract phones but the contracts here run for two years! Sod that!
I think the PAYG rate is about 30c a minute and texts similar.

For calling oversea i.e. the UK we use a prepaid phone card that you buy at the news agency. Its dirt cheap to call the UK, 0.5c per minute plus the price of a local call, so $10 lasted us donkeys. Its probably the same sort f price for South Africa.
