50 days to go....dreading the flight...help!!
Well, can't quite believe it's nearly here. Shipping went this week and now on count down. Really excited about it but dreading the flight. We have a 12 months old and 3 year old (just turned 3 last week). Any advice on flying with small kids welcome. Concerned about ears popping, screaming baby, bored toddler, washing bottles etc (using them only to try and relieve ear pressure).....oh and the dirty looks from other passengers....!!! Before kids we were probably guilty of the last comment...lol!
Thanks x

Can't comment on travelling to oz with a 12 month old but out son turned 3 on the plane when we spent 3 weeks in oz a couple of years ago :0).
He was absolutely fine. We flew with Emirates and they were fantastic. They gave all the children a backpack full of toys books and pens. All our son did was watch tele, eat and sleep, with an occasional trip to the toilet. He still used a dummy at the time so he had that during take off and landing. The connection at Dubai gave him chance to burn some energy running round until the next flight. With regards to your 12 month old I think this will be more of a challenge as they don't have there own seat. All the best for your new life x

We just did this 2 days ago - with a 13 month old and a 4 year old. I won't lie to you - it was hell. My only advice is don't bother dreading it! It has to be done. You'll get through it, as long as everyone survives you're doing pretty well ;) Personally I have vowed not to fly anywhere with them again until they are both old enough to drink. People will just have to come to us if they want to visit.
Seriously though, it's not THAT bad. They'll sleep some. There will be moments where they will be really hard work, but it'll pass and you'll get respite. You'll even have moments where they are pretty cute and fun to travel with.

We have 12 months old boy, 26 months old girl and 63 days to go
. Not worrying yet. We will get through those 24 hours of flight this way or another. You never know
Good luck.

Ha ha...lemomgirl...I love your honesty even if it's done nothing to reasure me...lol! Who did you fly with? Have you just emigrated?

Spela - where you heading to?
-
We are heading to Melbourne. We have same family there, so some presure will be taken off our shoulders when we land there. What is your destination?

I'm not far behind you...78 days to go!! You will be fine, try not to worry about it too much. I've flown loads of times with my two and never had problems with popping ears etc, neither of them have ever mentioned their ears. Night flights are usually better for the kids, getting their pyjamas on etc.As for the people who give out the dirty looks, tell them if they can do a better job they're more than welcome to try lol!Wishing you all the best for your new life. Xx

Hey Spela, we are too!! We have a number of old friends out there who have been great too. Even getting me some shopping in for when we arrive...result! Which area of Melbourne? We are heading Bayide areas. x
Trueblue....love your statement about other dirty looks...very true! x

Yep, just flew in to Brisbane friday, making our way down the coast to newcastle where we'll be living. We flew with Malaysian Air.
Best advise, actually, is probably to try to get a spare seat for the little one. Bulkhead is best with little babies, but once they are crawling/walking etc I find it easier to have a place to plunk them where they feel like big people, and also gives them a little spot where they can stand/bounce/play without really being under anyone's feet.
