Most people move to another country looking for a better way of life. Some are hoping for a better work/life balance, some are looking for better financial rewards and others still, put a strong emphasis on a healthier outdoor lifestyle. Those making the move with children are looking for a better life and more opportunities for their children.

Most of us have one of the above on our wish list when we pack up and head off on the life changing move to Australia.

But what actually happened once you got there? How different is your life to the one you had back at home?

Has life actually changed for the better or is it just different?Could you have achieved the same improvements without leaving home,by making some simple changes to the way you lived or just by having a new outlook?Could you have moved areas and started again for example?

We have found that our lives have not improved since moving here.We have made some changes but they are ones that could have happened anywhere,so apart from the climate not much has been a change for the better.

Some people love it here and have a great lifestyle. Some love it here and are happy to sacrifice a lot to live here. Some people, like myself, like it here, but feel what we have lost is more than what we gained.

What are your thoughts?Better?Just different?Sacrifice too high?

Myself and three kids 18,16,12 came over 6 weeks ago to join my husband who has been here now 3 months. So far I am not working, kids not in school and the only other adults I talk to are my hubbys friends who are all men.
Would love to meet up with mothers(40) and kids around same age. Our lease is up the end of november and we will be looking for somewhere else to live. We were thinking further up the coast maybe queensland although Port Macquaire is lovely any advice would be helphul.

Hi

I'm moving to Brisbane in 4 weeks and going to the city for the first 2-4 weeks then moving slight out of the city to live (need a holiday first). My concern is my daughter and schooling. I'm aware that schools start in Feb but will they except her for the maybe their last term.

Also are the children in school 5 days or 6 days a week. Oh my daughter is 10 and I have resident visa 176

My head is full of soft toys at the mo and could prob write loads of threads :chatterbox:

Last question, once my APHRA application has been complete (god knows when that will be) is there much call for Trauma nurses Brisbane?

Thanks

Just got an email telling me i got "class VE, subclass 175 skilled - independent":mad:

Thing is i was just settling for a long wait for the decision, so i went to college to get another trade. So now i am on this course. Thing is though the letter states "i must make my initial entry into Oz by no later than - 27th July 2011. and the college course takes me to Dec 2011.

Is there any way round this? I am committed to go to oz but the better qualified i am means stay potential is better.

PS

Thanks again for the advice leading up to this acceptance.

Hello, I currently live in tamworth in the UK. My husband works for AECOM and has just got a job which will be in Melbourne.
Not sure where to live in Melbourne.....need a garden though, don't want to live anywhere rough, we've been checking out crime rates for all areas in Melbourne. Is Glen Eira ok??? seems to be, but does anyone live there?
We have no leaving dates yet, but his work is sorting everything out. I keep feeling a bit nervous about the whole thing but I suppose that's only natural.
We have a 19 month old girl, who I hope to put in to nursery after a couple of months as I hope to find work on a part-time basis, hopefully with the police.

I really up for a new change, my husbands visa is for 4 years, I will rent my gaff out, so if we don't like it we can come back, but hopefully it will be a good crack.

I have travelled round Oz back in '99, but this will be a lot different.

Hello to any new people, speak to you soon:wacko:

Hi all
Have movers booked for later in the month, but thinking of saving some dosh and getting an external company do the insurance.
Several people have recommended Letton Percival as being a cheaper option, and they do quote at 1.6% of the value of the possessions (compared to 2.5% being what is on offer from the movers).
Has anyone actually made a claim through them though? just wondering if they are any good when it comes to actually getting some money back!
Cheers
