THE ULTIMATE GUIDE to FANTASTIC OZ
Hi Everyone;
I hope you'll bear with me, as I recently suffered a brain storm when watching the Skoda ad on telly (don't mock what you don't know!), which to the tune ofMy Favourite Things, uses deliciously familiar treats, like chocolate, sponge cake, ice-cream, jelly, etc. to construct & sell a completely unrelated product - a car! I thought PIO would love to sing the praises of their many Favorite AussieThings, sharing with those longing to visit or relocate, but who (like me!) are having a hard time choosing a destination, or aren't sure if they'll be giving up too many of their favourite British things. ..! So my thinking is, can we construct a VIRTUAL MAP of OZ ? This would mean anyone who's lived, visited or resides there can share their Favourite AUSSIE Things? The only real rule being that you, your mate or kids MUST have been there, eaten, seen, experienced this Favourite Thing!
May be you want to extol the virtues of your fav brand of ice cream? Can you let us in on a spectacular surfing spot, your fav restaurant, or shopping street, a great school, play-ground, park, or a stunningly amazing picnic spot or ferry crossing? Do you have a fav car, sandwich bar, cinema, boutique, brand of beer, or wine that you think we should try & why, or can U reveal a most exhilarating rock climb, bike ride, surf break, view, winery, bird, tree or golf tee.... Even your fav budget cafe or motel will be of note, you tell us where & why, & if you have a link, all the better to share! Surely, this would be the most amazing creation...!
I'm dying to see what you all come up with, surely they'll be no stopping you! This has gotta be a fun, lively & personal way of developing a picture of this wonderful, yet vast country , a destination we dream about, but can only troll through on sluggish websites or dusty tour guides! We are depending on your wonderful, amazing, outstanding, fantastic experiences for inspiration... Pleaseeee!
Thank You,
Herbster X

Our favourite chair lift is Arthur's Seat, Port Phillip Bay on the Mornington Peninsula
Our favourite Sunday Morning breakfast is on the street at a little cafe in St Kilda followed by a stroll along the hippy market on the seafront
Our favourite waterfall is McKenzie Falls in the Grampians, Victoria - stunning views and fond memories (see our pictures in the gallery)
Felicity's favourite koala is Dundee who gave her a big cuddle at Currumbin, Queensland (see our avatar)
Michael's favourite animals are the pair of tassie devils going hell for leather all day at Currumbin
Felicity's favourite dinner was posh nosh (especially the kangaroo) on the Tram Car Restaurant travelling through Melbourne at night
Our favourite casino is Crown in Melbourne - Felicity could watch the jumping water fountains all evening while Michael wishes he had endless supplies of cash for the roulette table
Will keep thinking and maybe add a few more favourites at a later date.
What a fab idea Herbster - you really are one clever bear

Great idea..
Favourite view......coming out of the train station at Sydney Harbour and seeing the view that is on tv or in magazines for real...amazing!
Second favourite view....Brisbane from Mount Cootha.
Great place for a picnic/ family day...Hinze Dam, Gold Coast Hinterland.
Relaxing.....People watching at South Bank/beach, Brisbane.
Peaceful and scenic.....Fishing at Nambucca Heads, NSW.
Keep kids amused....Wet'n'Wild, Sea World and Warner Bros. Movie World, Gold Coast. (buy the ticket to get into all 3 for value)
Lovely Stroll....Natural Bridge waterfall and sub tropical rainforest, Gold Coast Hinterland. (nice drive up to it too...if a bit steep at times).
If you get the chance, hire a motorhome and do the drive between Sydney and Brisbane. So many different views and places to see: forests, farmland, coastline, sugarcane(I think) that stretches for miles and some great little towns and campsites along the way. When we move it wil be one of our first holidays as we want to stop off at more places this time. Briliant!
