Question for anyone in OZ with secondary school age kids

I have a son currently in year 9 in the UK. We have kept to date most of his coursework and assignments that he has done since year 7 as revision for later on in his exams. Is it worth keeping this and shipping it all out to oz or is that just a waste of time.

Thanks
Mel

Different system, different curriculum, no exams at least until year 12 so not worth the effort unless he has an emotional attachment to them.

Hi Mel,

I'd actually bring his reports, record of achievement and some school refernces with you.
They will help when it comes to placing him in a school.

There are national skills tests in 3, 5, 7 and 9 but not exams based on curriculum content like GCSE or A levels - not until year 12.

Actually schools really dont care about reports from other places. They may politely take them and appear to skim but they will do their own assessments as to placement.

Unless you plan on sending your child to private school. They (well the ones I know about!) do like to see reports and discuss them with you at interviews.

Love

Thanks for all of your comments guys. I will bring his reports and grade cards with me. However, he has not been "the model student" and has only just really started growing up and starting to settle down at school. Do you think this will be a problem?

Thanks
Mel

School Reports

Hiya

We arrived last November and got the kids into school for the last few weeks before the summer holiday in December, except for the oldest who waited til new school year in Feb.

I took the kids last reports with me, the Primary School took copies but only cos I had them with me, they were happy to assess the kids once they started. The High School didn't want the reports and again were happy to assess them once they started. It is different here to UK schools and so far we are very happy with both Primary and High School.

Take them anyway as you have them and good luck with the move x

That's good to hear. My son wants a fresh start at school when he arrives which is good.

Thanks
