We have a good selection of TAFE (Technical and Further Education) colleges which sound like they would be ideal for your son - it is a difficult age to be coming into the Aus education system as in most states the final two years are geared towards the year 12 assessments and if you havent done the two year course you would be disadvantaged in a school environment. In order to do the full two years at school he would be with kids much younger than himself. It is possible to go to TAFE to get year 12 qualifications if that is what he wants to do or he could enrol in a trade course of some description check here TAFE SA Home page to see what is on offer.

Hi Rob and Shaz and 17 year old son
Would your son not consider an apprenticeship, i have managed to get my son Jake also 17 an apprenticeship as a mechanic, with the company i'll be working for in Brisbane. i'm led to beleive that there are still plenty of apprenticeships in Australia, not like the uk, i wish you all the best.

connaust is an unknown quantity at this point
A technical detail, have you got PR? If not he would be international and would need to do CRICOS registered TAFE South Australia: Courses

There are also a couple of cheaper private colleges in Adelaide also.

Cheers Andrew
