University in Melbourne

Hiya guys,

Im an australian resident but i live in the UK at the moment. I am hoping to move to melbourne in january 2009 to start university in melbourne in february. I am really nervous about it but feel that its the best thing to do. Does anyone have any advice for me at this stage? I am 20 and will be moving with my partner who is 23. Any words of wisdom would really be appreciated!

Hi Leigh

Well you are talking to a mature student here who at 37 (shhhh don't tell anyone) starts Uni to do a Degree in Nursing this year! Yip it took me that long to decide what I really wanted to do!

I'm doing my degree here in the UK then in 3.5 years we are coming out to Oz (Hubby will have retired from his current job at 40 and will do the same job hopefully in Oz).

Personally I would say go with what is right for you. At the end of the day you are the only one who knows what you want to do and what is right for you. If you want to work for a couple of years to get some money behind you to help get you through Uni then do that or just go back and get straight back into it. Remember though when you first go back it will be hectic - all that catching up with old mates and socialising and it will be like you are on your hols for the first few weeks, then reality will set in! Whatever you decide will be right for you and remember it doesn't matter what age you go to Uni as long as it's what you want to do and when you want to do it. Circumstances change all the time and I always say just go with it.

HTH in some way. All the best with your decisions

:)`

Aww thanks Tracy

Its fab that you're going to uni now. I couldnt agree more with you. I have spent the last 2 years working and have saved enough to start me off in aus. My stepmum did her nursing degree when she was 40 and she is happier than ever now since she is doing what she really wants to do. I really feel that literature and teaching is the right thing for me now after 2 years of indecision!!!

Thanks so much for your lovely message, it has really given me a boost. Its so mad trying to sort everything out for the big move and my partner and I have moved our reccy forward to just a few weeks time so soon the ball will be rolling!!!

All the best

Hi Leigh

Glad it's given you a boost... sometimes hearing from someone else is all you need to go with your gut feeling.

I'm sure you will love your reccy out there - we are currently trying to save and organise one (though not going too well at the moment but hey ho as is life).

I'm sure whatever you do will be right for you and if you realise it's not well you can change it to make it right for you - remember you are in charge of your own life and if things don't go to plan then you just work around them. I'm a bit of a believer that what is meant to be will be as well as nothing goes wrong in life, it's just there are some small obstacles in our way that we have to overcome

Enjoy your trip and all the best.

Tracy
