Hi all, was after some advice really, our son will be 3 when we move. I would like to have a job aswel as my partner so I was wondering what the options for childcare are for a 3 year old?
We are looking at the brisbane area but any general advice would be fantastic
Dont know about the Brisbane area but there are loads of childcare centres around the place however, places in those centres are pretty scarce (and generally quite expensive) so you may have to put your name down as soon as you arrive and hope that a place becomes available. There are also Family Day Care options if you dont mind your kid being cared for in someone else's home. All depending on who you work for, some employers actually have creches for staff but they are few and far between and, again, in high demand.
hmmm thats what I have been getting back from research, childcare places are few and far between! I was hoping there was a similar sort of thing as here in England, 3 hours free a day.
Looks like I'll be a stay at home mammy, after 2 years of working full time it will be nice and a shock to the system! Its a bit scary only having one wage coming in but we will manage i hope!
I also suspect childcare is a bit of an issue. You need a Nanny. I wil have one and luckily for me she only takes one square meal a day as payment
(only joking mum :) )

My Mood:
Hiya i put my daugter in child care no problems and have also helped a few familys enroll their children too ,its the 2yr old classes that for some reason seem to have waiting lists (around here anyway).Depending on the visa you are on Centrelink will contribute to the cost for you,if both of you work they contribute to 50hrs child care,if one of you works theyll contribute to 25hrs ,the amount depending on your income.I find them much more generous than the uk too.hope this helps a little

I also put my 2 boys into a nursery 2 days a week, and it costs me next to nothing.
Cost of childcare is means tested, so even low income families can use day care, and go back to work.
There is no way I could have afforded 2 days a week in the Uk for 2 children.
Because I have 2 kids, i found it hard finding a place for both of them ( ages 2 and a half, and 1 and a half ), so I spent a day just driving around the area ( we are on the sunshine coast ), and everytime I came across a nursery, I just popped in and asked, and then had a look round.
Hope you find something
Ang

Like Ang, I had a little bit of trouble finding childcare for my kids, because I had two kids to place immediately, and a third due to start soon; either there was no room for one or the other. There are plenty of kindys though, so for one child, I expect it should be easy enough to find somewhere. Everywhere I phoned were happy enough for me to come and look around with virtually no notice, just picked the one the kids and I seemed happy with. I don't work, so different circumstances, but I get about 70% paid off the total of two days per child a week, more if I worked or was at college.
