Special Needs.

Hi all, just found this site, had a good read but still looking for a few anwsers.
Going to Newcastle on 457 hopefullybut would like to know about school fees.
Three daughters 10,13,14, no probs there but my 14 year old is deaf, she is a lip reader and is oral (speaker not signing) although she can do both, would like to know how much we would be paying for her schooling and public schools for the other two. If anyone could help as i seem to have been stuck to this computor for ever....

Hi Yvonne

Welcome to Poms in Oz.

With regard to your two younger daughters, the answers are here:

http://www.schools.nsw.edu.au/media/...andpayment.pdf

With regard to your eldest, I'd suggest e-mailing the temp visa people at the NSW Dept of Ed.

Additionally, please see the following links:

https://www.det.nsw.edu.au/sitemap.htm

There are various societies for deaf people and you may be able to get some help from them.

Newcastle + Catholic Schools - Google Search

Catholic schools are sometimes cheaper than State run schools when the alternative is to pay International Student rates. There tends to be a long waiting list for each school, however. Nevertheless, in view of your daughter's disability it might be possible to make special arrangements for her.

Is living in Newcastle your only option? I believe that NSW (and possibly also the ACT though I am not sure about the latter) is/are the only state/s to charge school fees for educating the children of 457 visa holders.

Best wishes

Gill
