Yet another New School for the Gold Coast

The area around Coomera/Pimpama/Ormeau which is half way between Brisbane and the Gold Coast is becoming an incredibly fast growing area with the growth in schools being just as fast. Just opened is the New Pimpama State High School https://pimpamassc.eq.edu.au/Pages/default.aspx, in 2015 plan are in place to open a brand new Pimpama State Primary opposite the new high school as the current Pimpama Primary is bursting at the seams so to speak. https://pimpamassc.eq.edu.au/Calendarandnews/News/Pages/New-Pimpama-Primary-School.aspx

Ormeau Woods State High opened in 2009 and reached Gr 12 making the school compleat in 2012 https://ormeauwoodsshs.eq.edu.au/Pages/default.aspx

Now KINGS College at Reedy Creek have announced that they have funing approved for a new Campus at Pimpama (Kings have a "very good" name on the coast) so thought i would post details here for those who may have an interest. Remember that all state schools have a catchment area.

Proposed Pimpama Campus

King's Christian College has Non-State Schools Accreditation Board approval and government funding to build a primary and secondary school in Pimpama, at the northern end of the Gold Coast. We are planning to build a school catering for childcare through to Year 12 that will grow as the needs of the surrounding suburbs grow.

From January 2015, we will open with a small childcare centre and classes for Prep - Year 3. From there we will introduce an additional grade each year. The first year of secondary school (Year 7) will be available in 2019.

Earthworks in preparation for construction of our first building is due to begin in December 2013, with the first classrooms completed during the fourth quarter 2014.

That's fab. We're going to be renting in Coomera. After a lot of research I've already pinpointed this area as a sound investment!

How old are your children ? There is a great kindy as well Coomera Club House. Private so fees apply but boy is it worth it, kids get the chance to do extra's like tennis and japanese. Meals are included and prepared by a chef. http://www.coomeraclubhouse.com.au so popular they just built a second one across the road. You need to get names on a waiting list though. If older children give Upper Coomera College a miss. For primary i would recommend State School - Coomera Rivers State School https://coomerariversss.eq.edu.au/Pages/default.aspx or Private Lords Lutheran http://lords.qld.edu.au/ Lords is new opened in 2012 but rapidly making a name for itself and fees are very reasonable

Thanks for the info .

My kids will be 18yrs & 10yrs when we come over in August. I really like the look of Coomera Rivers State School. I'm still not sure if we'll be sending our 10yr old son privately. I just don't fancy the idea of him being in a religious school. We're Christians but not practising ones. I will check out the link for Lords though, so thank you.

I belong to the Coomera Community page on FB, really good for all sorts of information.

We're looking at renting and then buying on the Genesis Estate. Do you know much about it? Very excited, not long to go  .

Genesis Estate is very nice, good houses reasonable size blocks of land, nice club house and few rentals so owners really take a pride in there homes. Lords is a Lutheran school, so yes religeous but not over the top if you know what i mean, and some states are now even considering bring back religeon into state schools to get some values brought back. As your son will be 10 when you get here very close to high school depending on birthday so may barly have a year in primary before going on to high school. Lords goes all the way through to Yr 10 now and year 12 by 2016. Afraid the Lords web site is a bit on the lacking side, they have been so busy with all the enrollments and building etc the web site has slipped somewhat. It only opened in 2012 with about 60 students, now at 300. Started with i think 2 or 3 classrooms and that was it. Now I cant even remember how many classrooms are up and running, a small observatory is going in as are 5 multi purpose tennis/basket ball courts so building is on going. There is a manual arts building and a multi million dollar home Ec room, Oh and a specialist music dance room went in over the holidays with a sprung floor. The school will be capped at 1000 Prep to Gr 12 unlike many state high schools that are over 2000 gr 7 to gr 12.

Just had had a look at the web site. Looks lovely and I liked their emphasis on outdoor learning. The fees are very affordable too.

There are so many things to consider, it's only now that it's really sinking in that's the years of planning are about to be realised.

Glad to hear Genesis is well regarded, it does look nice. We loved the Coomera/Helensvale areas when we visited.

How do you like living there?

We are not up there at the moment on contract interstate but family live there and love it and we are often up there visiting grandchildren who attend Lords. Our daughter went through a Lutheran school as a child and we could not fault it. As for outdoors well they have have a "camp" i think it is still year 10. Not quite the camp you may imagine, when our daughter went through it they were away for a month, want hot water ? light a fie in the boiler ? Hungry ? here are your ingredients. Need clean clothes ? well wash them LOL Yes of course all very well supervised but children came back very much "grown up " and very appreciative of what there parents did and provided for them. They canoed down the river, hiked, did high rope courses, meditated, discussed life and its many issues just to name a few things. We have never had one issue with our daughter no smoking, drinking, drugs, non of that drama that so many parents go through. They are taught to respect themselves, and others including property and the world around them.

You must be very excited, i hope it is all you expect it to be. Oh if you consider Lords you may need to send them an email with your sons birth date so they can work out the grade he will go into. I only say that because this year there is a major change in education in Australia and year 7 will now be high school so all schools with have a double intake for year 7 in 2014, (year 6 and 7 moving across) not an issue for state schools, they have to take the children in there zone but enrolments will be very high for year 7 in private schools so you may need to reserve a place just in case you decide you want it. I think it is only $50 to do that.

Wow, thanks for the heads up re: year 7 changes! I had no idea that was going to happen!! I will definitely look into Lords. So many decisions to make, feels like my head will explode soon. Really hope it works out for us. We've done so much research on jobs, locations, uni etc... Do you know if we are able to apply for more than one private school?

I think we may do that then. We've been looking at St Stephens too. Having read another thread re: children & lifestyle I think we will be choosing private over state. One of the reasons as u mentioned is so Kurt will get some continuity over the years. Just have to hope Zoe gets an offer for Uni of Qld now .

Yes St Stephens is also a very good school, if you can afford the fees as they are at the upper end for the GC area, but it is a lovely established school and as you say Kurt would go right through. All depends on places and some parents are putting names down when a child is born for some of these private schools. Guess thats is why many are going to Lords it is being recommended for those who cant get into Coomera Anglican by Coomera Anglican and parents are willing to accept lack of facilities knowing they can get a place and facilities will come over the years. CAC started with just a couple of buildings as well as did St Stephens in fact St Stephens almost went broke in the early days but is now a highly rated established school. Just send them an email and ask to put Kurts name down.

Hope Zoe gets into QU great uni OH half went there so i guess i am bias LOL.

Hi everyone,

Just reread this thread. I am just wondering if anyone now has any recommendations for private schools in the Northern corridor?

We have just booked our months accommodation in the GC and have identified the area from Helensvale - Ormeau as the area we would like to live. If we were in Helensvale we would opt for the public school there however, in the other areas we would like to utilise one of the private schools. We had looked online at the Livingstone Christian College but haven't seen many reviews for this school.

Just wondering if anyone had any personal recommendations? I know Lords was mentioned on here, however I saw this was a new school with few facilities at this point. Is that likely to be a problem? Is it worth the $4000 a year (more when my eldest is in Y8) than Livingstone? TIA
