Hi everyone,

please can you help me, we are coming to the Gold Coast in a matter of months and I have done so much research on state primary schools my head is about to burst!

My daughter has just turned 5 and has started school in the uk, I'm slightly confused as to when kids start school in oz?

Also my husband will be based in southport and we are looking into areas a max of 20/25 minutes away, I can do as much research as I can but nothing compares to actual experiences so if someone's kids are at a school nr southport please give me you views!!!

its so hard trying to team up a nice area to live with a good school and close to work!!! Please help me!!

Hello, if your child has just turned 5 they will start school in 2014 but will be able to attend a pre school program at a kindy, though places can be limited in some areas.

i guess it is hard to decide on a school or area when you cant actually see the area. it may help if you look at http://www.whereis.com/ it will let you key in the street of where you will be working then zoom in and out to see local suburbs and gives you time and km distance from your work. State schools are zoned so that is you must live in the zone to enrol your child. Another site to look at would be http://www.myschool.edu.au/ this site shows you the academic results of schools in your selected area and also in many cases the school web site. Once you find a school you like you need to look if you can find a home in that location http://www.realestate.com.au/rent will help you find a rental or a home to purchase. Be aware some schools are prep to year 6 some are prep to year 12 so something else to think about. Oh and also http://maps.google.com/maps?ct=reset google maps will let you see what streets areas actually look like down side is the gold coast is growing very raplidly so the views tend to be a couple of years out of date but it will give you a rough idea.
