the ultimate road trip? usa coast to coast

so this is a trip i've been toying with for quite some time and i reckon i need some focus in my life so why niot focus on this.

what would be the most awesome route too take, sights too see on a one month road trip from east to west or vice versus across the good old usa?

My brother wanted to do Route 66 (the song you know it) but didn't get the chance. For me, my friend and I are planning to do a Thelma and Louise trip across the USA as long as she doesn't replicate the end bit. I'd like to go to Wyatt Earp country the Wild West and see the OK coral etc.

It is sometimes the everyday rather than the ordinary that proves most memorable. That said, Boulder, Colorado and Salem, Mass are memorable, or Key West. There is some amazing countryside around Seattle.

I did the East cost a few years ago - New York, Philidelphia, Washington, Savannah, Jacksonville, Miami and Orlando by train.

It was good and didn't have to bother with driving etc.
