There is some good stuff that comes out of Australia. The Gadflys would always end the Edinburgh Fringe every year for a long while. Great live band. OH would drag me along. The Waifs. I am sure others have favourites too.

Unfortunately, there is not enough poverty, deprivation and sh&t weather there to keep kids couped up in damp, dank 'rehearsal' studios half the year though.

Depends how mainstream your tastes are and how much you want to dig and pay to get what you want. Have a look at JB Hifi for example of a mainstream retailer.

There are some great Aussie bands that have made it to the UK in recent years - Cut Copy, and Temper trap to name but two. Others that aren't my bag too - Jet etc.

Australia has a very vibrant live music and club scene, catering for all tastes - from your 'pub rock' staples to every niche that you get in the UK and the US.

Obviously your bigger cities will give you greater choices but there are also tours by UK/US bands (usually around the slow months for gigs in the UK, winter ie Jan/Feb) and the Big Day Out which is a huge festival that plays in Sydney/Melbourne/Perth etc.

      Where are you headed?

excellent, thanks, watching a live band, whether that's a small act or a large one is one of my fave past-times, i'm heading to brisbane and just hoping that i'll have access to bands:v_SPIN:
