G'day mate, I take it that you have not done much of pigging, judging by your initial comment...
I have shot many pigs in my time and there is a great element of risk from those big tuskers, especially when cornering them in blackberry stands. One of my mates had his calf ripped open and had 42 stitches put in. He now has a slight limp because of that.
Also, the amount of damage that pigs do to crops, is amazing.
Imagine one of these close to you...

good stuff bob, i know by the tone of this thread this may not go down well but my late and great dad was a game keeper in the norfolfk countryside for near on 50 years.
I used to help him rear the pheasants eggs in incunators, then into inclousers before going into the open (much like we rear cattle but free range and if the dumbasses had a brain they'd bugger off to where it was safe).
then we let people pay lots of money to walk about in the countryside shooting them, collected our kill and it all got ate.
which, wondering breifly back on topic, is what happens over here, we kill roos, we eat roos, we kill pig, we eat pig.

That's sure some boar Bobj.
He looks like the Pilbara has toughened him up which it would, nearly looks like his ancestor could have been part bear!
And you don't even have to go as far as the Pilbara to find some biggies.
Up in the Daintree, I went to relieve myself early one morning and heard all this snorting and rooting about, could vaguely make out some foliage being shaken in the darkness and I startled a couple of more wild biggy piggies than boars and they were living of a better pasture for they were well fatted ones too.
Also wondering how welcome my cocker spaniel
He'll need a few mates to handle a boar but could make for target practice I suppose!
But hunters do take trained retrievers to duck hunting season.
You do get a heap of the good guys protesting about it too.
Edit:
For any would be pig hunters who get lost and come across a copper, find some other way to ask "where are the local pigs?", especially if he is overweight and it's hot and he's sweating like one!
