      How would you describe PIO?

Someone the other day said PIO was like being in a crowd at a footy match…. Hmmm I don’t think so

I’d say it’s more like a tennis match

Fast paced lots of points being scored involvement from the crowd John Macon row arguments with the umpires (moderators), dummy spits and the occasional streakier (troll)
Even a great Davis cup match available daily on a thread coming close to you.

As written on all great toilet walls

At the moment it makes for sad reading.
Normally there is lots of banter but at the minute there is a lot of sad news.
The good thing though it shows how much PIO plays a part in peoples lives that they feel able to share there news good, bad or sad.
I no longer skinny dip,I now chunky dunk

I love PIO and HAVE to check the posts every day. Full of useful information, guidance and friends.

Recently there has been alot of sad news and some negative arguementive post but heh there will always be the god, bad and ugly so just try not to rise or respond to some of the negative and arguementative threads.

In life most of us tend to stick to what and who we are comfortable with - on PIO however you mix with people that you would never normally connect with (and actually come to like) - let's be honest most of us probably wouldn't spend time around each others houses even if we were neighbours yet here we are sharing our lives, and often more honestly than we would if we were chatting at a BBQ.

I for one find it very refreshing - often I don't agree with what people say and I'm sure the feeling is mutual - but I love the diversity and my life is richer because of it. The one danger is if it becomes a substitute for 'real' life and friendships - I know many of you will say "but they are real" - but hopefully you know what I'm getting at.

This is a great site - and it's great that it is based around a common goal rather than a general social networking site. - It means that we all start with something in common. I've only been on here for a month but already I find myself genuinely excited when someone gets a visa or even a case officer and desperately sad when someone's marriage is not going well or someones sick (or even worse).

My concern is always that at some point things change - sometimes they have to of course but my guess is that as the site develops and grows it probably won't look like it does just now - Joanne leaving today is just one indication of that as is the indications of changes to the site in the coming weeks. Hopefully they will be handled well - we love what we have with PIO - I will be sorry if the dynamics are altered too much - it's a great family - arguing, bickering, loving, hating, caring, happy, sad - but a great family none the less!!!!

I immediately thought Rugby Scrum and I'm lined up against a female hooker!
But then I've got good prop size and can take plenty of shoving about.

For me it's a welcome relief from the er "edgy" feel I get when I go on British Expats. I stopped posting on there because I felt pretty daft, as there would always a smart or offensive comment (obviously that is a generalisation as there are some very interesting posts and people too). I have a feeling on here that, although controversial sometimes (which is very often a good thing), people seem to care about others. As has been said, we have a common starting point which is always good, but people are able to diversify from that if they wish and gain other peoples' opinion. I also am a member of Britvics which is another fab forum where I feel I can air my views/ask questions without ridicule. I have only been a member on here for a short while, but I really enjoy reading about peoples' lives, even when there are truly heartbreaking stories. I do think forums per se are addictive though, which can be a pain!!
