I like old Maggie Thatcher, actually. I think she lost the plot at the end of her time in Downing Street but I admired her immensely before that.
Cheers

I guess you could argue she knew her mind and wasn't afraid of taking tough decisions ... but the same can be said for Hitler ... and he had a better line in uniforms.

She didn't take any s..t from anyone, look at the Falklands War, GOOD O THATCHER. She is/was proud to be British.

I was a raw recruit in the City of London when Thatcher first became the Boss. Mixing with Sloane Ranger ladies including one who worked at the Palace, I have it on good authority that it went thus:
Before the first banquet that Thatcher was due to attend as PM in the presence of HM the Queen, apparently Thatcher summoned the dress designers and chose the creation she wanted to wear. She then sent a piece of the dress material to the Duchess of Grafton, the Queen's main Lady in Waiting at the time.
Seemingly Thatcher wanted to know whether HM was planning to wear a dress of a similar colour because if so Thatcher would gladly change hers to a different colour.
My mate was the Duchess' PA. She said that the Duchess dictated a reply for her to type and send back to Downing Street. The Duchess is said to have dictated, "...Please feel free to wear whatever you like. Her Majesty does not notice what other ladies wear."
I thought that was a hoot!
Cheers
