Sorry to all you smokers but...

I love it now there is no smoking in the pubs clubs etc. I really have noticed the difference its brilliant, does the same rules apply in Oz or are they still puffing in public buildings?

Oz were well ahead of the UK depending on which state you are in. VIC I believe started to ban smoking in 2002.

Unfortunately I hate the non smoking in pubs thing. I'm not really a smoker but for me it should be up to the pub to decide. It's killing the business for so many landlords.

Plus certain smells,, eg toilets can now be smelt in pubs because the smoke smell has gone!

Oh well, there are many bigger problems to deal with in life! I think I can handle it!

Don't you think the answer is actually clean the toilets properly!!

Getting rid of smoking in all public places has been one of the few things this government has done right, even if it took them 10 yrs to get there.

I'm against the smoking ban I suppose really. It doesn't bother me as much as other issues do but like I say I do think it should be up to the pub/club/restaurant to decide, then people can choose where they want to go.

Smoking has always been part of pub life and I suppose it's not the same without it as far as I'm concerned.

Of course I don't expect many people to agree with me. After all smoking is bad for the health and shouldn't be done. I'm forever on at my husband to give up!

I have to say that I love the fact that my hair and clothes don't smell like an ashtray anymore, I used to hate that.

Maybe I was imagining it, but each time I've been out there I've been struck at how few smokers there actually are full stop. I got the impression that it was much less socially acceptable then what it is in the UK. Could be wrong though.....?

I have to admit im a smoker and im for the smoking ban in restraunts. Even being a smoker i have never liked smoking in restraunts. But im against smoking ban in pubs and clubs. In the city where i live i have seen loads of bars close down since the smoking ban due to the fact they do not have facility for smokers so people werent going in. When we go out we tend to stick to the places which have facilitys for smokers. Even a few of my friends that are non smokers do smoke once they have had a few drinks and we are out.

That is brilliant I always knew England would be one of the last, its such a sensible idea. I am not hugely anti smoking but they say pro choice but my choice is not to breathe in others smoke nor do I want my children to do the same.
I am not holier than though if people want to smoke thats their choice, I choose to drink which probably is not good for me but it does not affect others, but 3 generations of my family have died of Lung cancer including my mum, and my Dad who was only 38, so I do strongly believe both myself and my children should be able to be in a smoke free environment if possible just in case its in our genes.
The trouble is I also like sitting outside of pubs in the summer and I cant do that now! Oh well at least there is less chance of skin cancer!!!!
