sending gifts to UK

My daughter has just sent her best friend in the UK a birthday pressies, it consited of a necklace, soft toy and a card she'd made of photo's of the 2 of them together taken over the years - Total cost was less than $25 but it cost me $17 to send, think next time she can have an argos voucher ordered on line lol

Same issues here - cost $45 to send my nieces birthday pressie. Luckily we'd already bought Michael's nieces so we sent that via sea, can't remember how much it cost but it was a heck of a lot cheaper.

Think I may have to do that next time - how long does it take by sea? I got some cash the other day to put in cards for friends children - I've only been in Aus 16 months but £'s looked so odd and dull after the bright $

Amazon uk for me!!! I got fed up with paying more in postage than I did for the gifts and am notoriously bad at sending things ahead of time so Amazon is my friend

Thanks for that Quoll, never used Amazon so will have a look there, Alex's friend was 13 so she wanted to send something rather than money

I bought wedding presents from Marks and Sparks and they gift wrapped and delivered them to my Niece in the UK. I have also used Argos website when my Daughter went over there for a while, so I bought her a few household essentials and they were delivered to her too.

There isnt an Aus Amazon, I just go to the amazon.co.uk site and order stuff from there. There has been talk of an amazon.aus but there really isnt the demand especially as many of us usually order from amazon US. I just figure with UK, and my shocking memory for dates that stuff will get there on time and it usually only takes a couple of days. When you check out you can choose where you want your goods to be sent, you can check the "gift" box and they wont send the invoice with it. You can, if you are so inclined, pay an arm and a leg and get the stuff gift wrapped (very nicely!) as well.

Ali, sea/surface mail, takes too blinking long, well coming out to oz is does (guess it would be the same going to uk)
we had 3 parcels posted from uk on 5th dec last year - 2 came air mail and arrived a week later, but one got mixed up with surface mail (in the uk they had to claim money back as p.o error) and it arrived here the end of March - maybe a lot cheaper but not a good idea unless you send many months in advance.

Send a message via Skype™ to johatts
Its not a dramatic difference in price between air and surface and they say for surface mail leave 12 weeks minimum!
