Are internal flights expensive?

Hi
My brother and his family live in Sydney, we're going to Brisbane. I've heard internal flights very expensive as there is not as much competition between airlines and not much in the line of cheap no-frills airlines?
Is this the case?

Cheers
Sheena

Hi, we have also booked our internal flights with Virgin Blue as they were def the cheapest option. They don't release all the flights available until a few months before so you have to keep checking the site.

Hi
we also used Virgin blue - they did seem to be the cheapest - although it still cost us about a grand for return flights for 4 of us to go Adelaide/Cairns return - but it was right on top of Xmas as well...

Don't think it is as cheap as the good old ryanair european flights, but you can't have everything...

Have flown Virgin Blue to Melbourne and to Hamilton Island and they were great. Also Jetstar are good, I actually think that they are a little cheaper than Virgin to be honest. You can get deals all the time. jetstar are currently doing a 4th birthday deal where you buy one ticket and take a friend for $4!

I've booked flights from Sydney to Brisbane (one way) in December with Jetstar and paid $79 each. Easy to book online.

That's good for Dec., is it over the Christmas period?

Dec 16th, but I booked them ages ago - Jan/feb time. We are only flying one way as we are driving back to Sydney along the coast - stopping off for a couple of days here and there.
