I'm Sorry I not pointing any fingers or laying any blame at anyone's door but! wot is happening to Britain?
I know it's easy to criticise a place i'm leaving, after all it's part of the reason i'm leaving but it doesn't stop me feeling sad and concerned about the way things seem to be going, after all i'm 45 and spent more than likely over half my life here.
I've spoke about the loyalty issue before so i don't want to go there again. I know i'm doing the right thing but i'm leaving friends, family here in an environment and society that seems to have lost control of any values.
The vast majority of people are more than decent people, it's just that being decent doesn't seem to be make ablind bit of difference here now.
How can so many people end up the victims of mindless crime now and the criminals be protected by human rights issues. If they have taken a human life surely they have no human rights?
I'm not stupid enough to think bad things have always gone on. Thing is it seems that it's everyday news now. On top of that the cost of living, working hours and the little voice we have it's no wonder people want out. We are lucky enough to be able to do that, most can't.
I'm not sure why i have posted this, perhaps it's just to let off steam, i look at Oz though and yeh i know i've not lived there yet and nowhere is perfect but i do think that there is a certain pride that runs right thro' society and thro' the authorities too that brings everyone together with the same goals, whereas the views of everyone here is ignored. How can you tell a child to have pride in what they do when it's actively discouraged when it comes to your country.
Starting a new life in Oz is going to be hard, but sadly not as hard as continuing here.
Keith
you are absolutely right, there are many threads on here saying similar things, but I think you make a very valid point namely that leaving is hard, but contemplating staying is unthinkable. The wagons are being circled and it's time to go!

Hi Keith, I absolutely love your final words..... "Starting a new life in Oz is going to be hard, but sadly not as hard as continuing here" I shall remember these words when people ask me why we are going.......
Thanks

Hi Keith
What can you say, you are absolutely right it will be sad to leave the uk and everything we know, but we want a better life for our son and ourselves and feel that oz is the place to be
We are off to perth as soon as we have sold our house and cant wait.Good luck to you and your plans to follow the dream.
Your comments sound very similar to many of mine ....
I feel in a hopeless situation - feeling bad for going and leaving my folks, but cannot stay because of the whats happeninig to the country.
A lot of damage has been done very quickly by weak do-gooders in goverment QUOTE "How can so many people end up the victims of mindless crime now and the criminals be protected by human rights issues".
I am sure there has not been as much X&$~ on our streets as there is now, and I am sure Mr Brown has better things to do than take common sense lessons .... So, given the opportunity, I shall be voting with my feet !
A new start will be hard - give it your best shot .. we will !

Hi All,
I'm glad to hear that there is others that feel as we do.
Sometimes when people question what you're doing and as you probably know there is a few of them you feel guilty. By the way Debsz and Mandisfam one of things my mate (whos moved to NZ) said to say when asked WHY? especially by the rude ones, that i quoted on another thread, was-
" We're doing it because WE CAN!"
(I liked that one)
Keith
Wow, what a very valid and important post, and one straight from the heart.
I'm not sure what you are describing is entirely isolated to the UK however. I believe it is a global phenomenon, and one directly linked to greed, materialism and poor time management. I think too many people are putting too much importance upon the mighty dollar (or pound) and worrying less about the more important things in life like family, culture and soul.
In my opinion Australia has always been a slow and relaxed place to live, and that is why many UK people move here, but if I'm being totally honest and realistic, all those problems you described are happening here in Australia too, just a little slower and probably slightly less severe.
From what you have described, it sounds like you may have a happier life and future by moving to a more rural part of Oz instead of one of the major cities or centres.
I agree with you, but what makes you think that Australia is somehow different? There seems to be this belief among a lot of would-be migrants that Britain has gone to the dogs and Australia/NZ are bastions of the "good old ways" where remoteness means society has been shielded from the worst aspects of modern life. Where kids still show respect and chavs don't exist. Well maybe there are some remote corners of Australia or NZ where that holds true, but believe me, Australia's cities have just the same trends as the UK. In fact, I would say things are often worse here without the British veneer/tradition of civility.
Australia's a great place but in an age of globalisation it shares many of the same social trends as the UK/US.
