Damn migrants! Sustaining our economy and doing all the ****ty jobs none of the workshy dole scum will do! Makes me so mad....
i think you might be right! there must be a thread somewhere in the world with Aussies cursing Poms coming over and expecting a life of sunshine and surf! seeing as i am migrating i would have to think about the wording of this before i could agree. when i have whinged about the migrants here - my friends and family are the first to agree - but then remind me about what i am doing!
I can feel for you - but look at what you are saying... we have areas of migrants around the UK - and yet look at us on here asking where the best places to live in Aus are!!
i have spoken to a fair few aussie mates in my time who take the mick out of me for wanting to migrate to their country. Surely you have to see the irony of the situation. People want to move cos migrants are taking all the work..do you not think you are taking a job off an aussie ???
migrants doesnt just mean polish, bangladeshi, pakistani or turkish or whatever, WE may not speak differently or have dark skin but we certainly are migrants. plus 100 people a day are emigrating to oz from uk..they must be building houses for us to live in
I don't have a problem with migrants, providing they work at the going rate and not undercut our wages. My hubby has lost £2.00 on his hourly rate.
The main problem is that the Govt want to build 15,000 houses on green belt, not brownfield sites & destroy our VILLAGE (approx 600-1000 houses). They want to build a TOWN on ground that is prone to subsidence, has electric pylons on, & prone to flooding. They propose to bypass the normal planning route by using a Govt. clause that says they can do what they like. They are calling it 'ECO' so they can use this clause.
We would like to migrate ourselves to Oz, but you know I would not put myself in the situation of annoying other people & impinging on their lifestyle.
They still won’t find a contractor to build on unstable ground or a consultant to say that the ground is suitable to build on. First thing they will do is get a bunch of geotech engineers to bring along several large drilling rigs and spend a few weeks assessing the ground conditions. If the ground is unstable they will say so in their report and recommend either stabilising the ground or looking elsewhere. If they don’t say so and the houses subside then their company is liable. Nobody would do that. The Environmental Impact Assessment will also show that the ground is liable to flooding. It also covers things like noise, dust, visual intrusion, traffic etc and they all have very strict legal limits for both construction and operation. They can’t just build where they want. The report into the impact is a matter of public record and you can see it whenever you want. You are also entitled to a public review where you can question the government, engineers and consultants live and in person.
My point originally was that the need for new houses in the UK has nothing to do with migrants. The majority of them will probably be bought by people who can’t afford to buy elsewhere and that includes single people, young couples, people on lower wages and migrants. I would imagine migrants would make up a small percentage of that.
I just get sick of so much in the UK being blame don this imaginary group ‘migrants’ that seems to cover everybody from Sudanese refugees to Polish surgeons. It’s nonsense. The facts of the matter are that people not born in the UK contribute more to the treasury every year than they remove. They are a positive influence on our economy and, in my opinion, our culture. Yes you get the odd asshole arriving but you have 100 other people just wanting a better life and fully prepared to work for it, just as we are in OZ. The stories about tens of thousands of cunning migrants here to take advantage of our benefits system are just that – stories. Scratch just below the surface (or switch from the Mail to an actual newspaper) and the reality is quickly established.

What do you think the purpose of your migrancy is?
Its not because they think you're a good bloke or bird, its because businesses need to redress the skills and worker shortages and to drive down labour costs... that's the deal.
You can be sure there are Australians here who aren't too happy about that either.
I also find it kind of hard to be upset for some of the plumbers, electricians etc back home when they quote you call out rates of 80 quid for the first hour and 40-50 quid an hour after that. That's a hell of a lot more than I make, so if I can get work of the same quality for 40 quid an hour from a Polish guy then fantastic.

Yep that's the free economy and so it should be!
Ironically plumbers and sparkies in Aus use the licencing system as a job protection scheme to artificially drive up costs. The licensing system was designed I presume to get rid of untrained cowboys but it also had the undesirable effect of regulating labour costs in a way that unions could only dream of.
