I was reading this earlier http://www.smh.com.au/travel/travel-...810-23y7q.html, about the policy of Virgin Australia not allowing male passengers to sit next to unaccompanied minors, and I was wondering what peoples thoughts are about it.
I have two girls who I obviously want to protect from harm, but I do feel that the modern pre-occupation with assuming that all men are paedophiles, based on the actions of very few, is hugely damaging to both men and also to our children. I know that Virgin aren't actually accusing that particular passenger of anything, but they do seem to be saying that every man has the potential to be a paedophile, even though that simply isn't the case. I believe that most paedophiles abuse the children in their care anyway (they are parents, other family members and family friends in the main I think), so what comes next? Do we stop all men from having any contact with children, even their own? Do we then think "Hang on, some women are paedophiles too, maybe we should stop exposure of children to any adults"?
I know that these examples are in the extreme, but I feel that that is the way that we are heading, and that it would be a very dangerous path to tread.
