Curfew for youths under 16 in Bangor.
A new pilot scheme curfew from 9pm to 6am, has been launched to prevent youths being in the centre of Bangor, to cut down on the problems with anti-social behaviour, disorder and vandalism.
Pro views think its a great idea, why are youths under the age of 16 out in the city centre? Great idea, to cut down on anti-social behaviour which is a massive problem.
Against views point out, its a breach of human rights and smacks more of action that North Korea would take, not North Wales.
whats everyone else think?

Would a curfew even work?
I always think that parents who are looking after their kids wouldn't be letting them roam the streets at night and the ones who don't care probably won't start just because a curfew is introduced.
What's the penalty for breaking the curfew?

I think something should be in place, maybe if you are caught vandalising etc then you should be placed on curfew but they would struggle to implement it unless it was a blanket ban

Didn't we have a lovely time
The day we went to Bangor
A beautiful day, we had lunch on the way
And all for under a pound, you know
That on the way back I cuddled with Jack
And we opened a bottle of cider
Singing a few of our favourite songs
As the wheels went around

Except the vehicle was now on bricks and the wheels nicked.

I saw a news clipping on sky and they said the police would check ID but not necessarily do anything, i think it was down to police discretion, which could mean anything, they didn't say if they would arrest them, charge them, or just offer a taxi ride home, i suppose they would order them to leave and if they come across them again, take direct action. I suppose its better than nothing, i have never been to Bangor, anyone know what its like. The pilot trial lasts 6 months.

Hee hee yes I went to college in Bangor. Couldnt believe it when I saw the news.
It's the original one horse town where the most exciting thing to happen in years has been the opening of the new shopping complex with a Marks and a Debenhams. Having said that, there was always trouble back in the day with a) drugs b) local youth wanting to get into university discos etc and not being allowed to and c) boredom.
It has all probably changed a lot since then, but I was in Bangor last week, and it all looked pretty much as grotty as ever i.e. one horse town etc etc. I took a taxi a couple of years ago from the university building to the station and the driver asked me to 'give my love to civilisation'. I couldnt wait to get out of the place.
Think its a bit of sabre rattling on behalf of the police if you ask me. The local youth (antisocial variety, there are nice people living there) are probably quaking in their boots.
